Howdy, partners! Welcome to our annual MAAFS conference and annual meeting. These past two years have been “wild” and truly enjoyable for me. Through my experiences I have been able to share some of Maryland fairs great ideas. I have shared family oriented activities areas with the Florida Federation of Fairs and plan to do the same at the IAFE this year. I will also attend the Ohio State Fair convention to present a workshop for their Junior Board members. It is with pride I share the best of Maryland fairs with others because we are doing so many really great things and have been in the forefront on many initiatives. It is because of the commitment of our members that our organization remains strong and I hope that this will continue. As an organization we need to continue to take pride in our fairs, shows and our organization. We need to look forward, be aggressive and never forget our past. There is still much to be done to keep the agricultural fair alive. If we all share our ideas and resources we can continue to provide high quality agricultural education and entertainment. It has been a privilege to serve the MAAFS organization and I look forward to all MAAFS can offer to our fair industry. I hope everyone enjoys our Wild, Wild West adventure this year and continue to support our organization. Y’all come back now, Sue Sullivan

Howdy Partners!! Welcome to the Hunt Valley Inn and the Maryland State Fairground for the 2012 Maryland Association of Agricultural Fairs and Shows (MAAFS) Convention. This year, we have had many obstacles to overcome in presenting our fairs to our fair patrons. The MAAFS works to help our fairs, no matter how small or large, to solve these many challenges. MAAFS strives to accomplish this through our annual convention, workshops, and the sharing of ideas and materials with member fairs. I encourage all fairs, young or old, small or large to maintain membership in MAAFS. I hope that each one of you will enjoy yourself this weekend by meeting new friends, reconnecting with old friends, and discovering additional ways that involvement in MAAFS can benefit your Fair. See you around, Partners, Bill Langlotz

Maryland Association of Agricultural Fairs, Shows

Fair Person of the Year

2011

Congratulations to Richard (Dick) Angus Dick Angus has been a staple to the Fair Industry and the 4-H Program for many years. He has gone above and beyond the meaning of service. He was State 4-H leader for 10 years. Working with the youth of Maryland to learn the meaning of the 4-H pledge. He has used his head to help many of us grow, his heart to show compassion, his hands to lead us and his health to show us how to be productive adults. He has worked with great energy with the 4-H All Stars to help them in there quest of service. He always has a smile and a kind word for everyone. He has worked with the Prince Georges County Fair for many years. He has chaired the committee for the MAAFS Judging School and has shared his expertise in training our state certified judges. Dick is a man of many talents and truly deserves this honor. Thank You Mr. Angus

Fair Person of the Year Each year the Maryland Association of Agricultural Fairs, Shows and Festivals will honor an individual with the Fair Person of the Year Award. The Fair Person of the Year Award is the highest level of recognition MAAFS bestows. The award has been given annually to honor individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the development and promotion of Maryland Agricultural fairs, shows and festivals. The Fair Person of the Year recipients are outstanding individuals who exemplify the best in our industry by believing in and continually promoting fairs, shows and festivals in our state. The MAAFS Fair Person of the Year is a peer award. Any MAAFS member may nominate a candidate, based on criteria developed by the board of directors. The Fair Person of the Year committee selects the candidate to receive the award from the nominations. The winner is announced during the MAAFS annual convention. One of the traditions of the Fair Person of the Year Award is that the recipient is unknown until the award is actually presented. Over the years, this has created moments of great emotion. On Saturday evening, join our colleagues and friends in honoring these past recipients and welcome this years winner to this prestigious group known as one of us who has made a difference in our industry and in our state 1997 Diane Wilson Anne Arundel County Fair
