CAR OR TAXI The sheer number of vehicles in the city, above 7 million, usually causes slowdown in traffic, especially in the early morning, late afternoon and on rainy days. If you rent a car, beware of vehicle restrictions based on plate numbers enforced during the week in a large area around the city center. If you’d rather take a taxi, select from the categories: common, special, and radio taxi. The two last ones are more expensive, but reachable by phone (Guarucoop 24407070; Rádio-Táxi Vermelho e Branco 3146-4000; Táxi Comum Aeroporto de Congonhas 5533-6631; Táxi Comum Rodoviária Tietê 2221-3779).
