This will be a brief note from Father Martins addressing a current issue related to the church and school or a spiritual note. For example, in the November issue, he could issue an Advent/Christmas message to the students and families. In February he could offer a lenten reflection. In May, he could write about the meaning of reconciliation and the eucharist in celebration of first reconciliation and communion. CEC Report The Catholic Education Commission commends the parents of St. Peter on their commitment to the Christian faith and their encouragement of this faith for all of our children. The CEC is committed to fostering the growth of Catholic and academic education at St. Peter School as well as providing exceptional religious education programs for grades Pre-K through 12th. We work closely with our pastor, school administrators, and RE directors to make sure our students are receiving the best possible education. The CEC’s role includes: •Advising and assisting administration while they evaluate and create yearly plans. •Helping set policy and budgets for both the school and religious education programs. •Addressing issues of concerned parents at the beginning of each monthly meeting. Final approval for budgets comes from the pastor and the Finance Council. Policies and advisory steps of action must be permitted by the pastor as well. Our group of eight volunteer parishioners is selected through an application process overseen by the pastor, the school principal, the directors of religious education, and the CEC chairperson. CEC terms last three years with a possible re-appointment for another three years. The CEC meets every fourth Thursday evening during the months of August through May. Guests are welcome to present issues of concern during the beginning of each meeting. In order to create sound policies and practices, we value parental input. We encourage parents to utilize the CEC’s help if concerns are not addressed adequately by administrators and RE Directors. Please contact Chairperson Paul Barton (630.669.5220) if you are interested in presenting an issue, idea, or concern at an upcoming CEC meeting or if you would like to serve on the commission. Catholic education begins at home. Together, we can work to further educate our parish youth. 

Cross Country St. Peter runners have come close, but have never won an individual title at a large cross country invitational. That is until last Saturday when 8th grader Charlie Zimmer won the 2 mile boys race at the 30 team Fred Martin Invitational in a time of 11:28. Zimmer took the lead at the start and held it for most of the race. The lead pack challenged him several times but failed to maintain Zimmer’s winning pace. A late surge with 400 meters to the finish by a Arlington Heights St. Peter runner was no match for Zimmer as he finished in first place, 4 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. The rest of the St. Peter Rockets boys 2 mile team managed a 10th place overall team standing in the highly competitive field. After Charlie Zimmer’s historic finish, the highlight of the morning for the boys was 6th grader David Peterson’s finish (48th place in 13:19) with no shoes. His shoe was “spiked” off in the first mile, and he subsequently kicked off his other shoe and ran the entire second mile shoeless. In spite of that, he placed second for the Rockets in a personal best time.
