Charcoal transcends history as a versatile medium that artists use to create dramatic richness, through the use of shading, dark and light strokes and textures. MOSAIC – WEEK 8 Discover the many decorative and functional possibilities of mosaic while learning about this colorful, light-catching art. Working with a professional mosaic artist, you’ll learn the ins and outs of creating art using stained glass placed in patterns on a surface. You’ll learn to work safely with appropriate tools to practice construction, glass cutting, copper foiling, soldering, and cleaning. Non-Member: $320 Member: $300 Course # 22C08SPCB July 11–15 WATERCOLOR – WEEK 9 Watercolor painting is noted by its translucent and subtly emotive artistic expression. This camp will teach you to use basic watercolor materials and tools to portray your own imagination and inspiration. STUDIO ARTS (Ages 11–14)

We always look forward to a fabulous summer with our eager Art Campers and Studio Artists during Spruill Summer Camp. The halls are filled with energy and excitement for 11 weeks from May 23 through August 5. Each week ends with an Art Show on Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. and features the art created by your talented young artists. Camp meets Monday through Friday (except Memorial Day and July 4th) from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Carpool drop-off is 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Carpool pick-up is 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Before-care and After-care services are available for a fee. Details can be found at www.spruillarts.org. Camper age requirements apply to their age during the week(s) of participation.

This year, we’re introducing a new and exciting format for our Art Camps. Campers will take a deep dive into the week’s theme by participating in activities designed for wide-eyed creativity no matter what skill level. They’ll be grouped by age and will begin their day’s journey with their first instructor in an assigned homeroom. Each hour, they rotate to a new room and join a different instructor who will guide them through their next explorations of the week’s theme.

THE ART OF INDIA – WEEK 1 Come explore India, one of our world’s ancient artistic cultures. You’ll learn about modern and traditional Asian Indian art through painting, pottery, textiles, and music. You’ll even learn a bit of India’s languages...Namaste! Course # 22C01CAMP May 23–27 EMOJI MAKERS – WEEK 2 Sometimes only an Emoji can describe how we feel. In this camp, you’ll have fun designing your own Emojis to express your feelings, moods and reactions. You can create Emojis of yourself, your friends, your favorite foods, and even your pet! Let your imagination run wild and make art out of your Big Dreams. Course # 22C03CAMP June 6–10 PATTERNS TELL THE STORY – WEEK 4 Colors and shapes rhyme and repeat to create patterns. Artists Yayoi Kusama, Alma Thomas, and Piet Mondrian have used patterns to tell stories through their own unique and beautiful art. In this camp, you’ll tell your imaginative stories by exploring the language of patterns and creating artistic masterpieces. June 13–17 Course # 22C04CAMP PEACE, LOVE AND UNDERSTANDING – WEEK 5 Art is a meaningful way to connect to our world in a peaceful way. Art helps us to be active and engaged listeners. It helps us express emotion, and it helps build confidence. Throughout the week, you’ll use familiar and new materials to design art posters that create awareness and advocate for issues that inspire and motivate you in a personal way. Course # 22C05CAMP June 20–June 24 IT’S A CANDY COLORED WORLD! – WEEK 6 Come discover the candy colored world of art! THE ART OF SCIENCE – WEEK 7 S.T.E.A.M. powers how scientists and engineers use Art to make creative discoveries. This fun camp is an exploration of the integration of art with science, technology, engineering, and math to show how creative thinking leads to innovation. The wonder of the world is yours when Art is on the pallet. July 5–8 Course # 22C07CAMP MONSTER MAGIC – WEEK 8 Magic monsters and creative creatures are often depicted in art. They can be found in ancient cave drawings, as masks designed for cultural celebrations around the world, and in our favorite movies, books, and video games. You’ll harness the power of art to explore your own ideas and bring that imagination to life. July 11–15 Course # 22C08CAMP THE MOOD IN BLUE – WEEK 9 Blue can color your mood in so many ways! We feel calm when we watch the brilliant blue sky, or excitement when we see the dark blue night. We feel amazement to see all the blues in the ocean change from one minute to the next. Come explore the Mood in Blue! July 18–22 Course # 22C09CAMP IT’S A WORLD OF COLOR – WEEK 10 When you look around what do you see? Shiny red apples and bright yellow bananas on your table? Purple and pink petals and green leaves on the flowers in your garden? Dark green pine trees in the yards in your neighborhood? Color is everywhere! Come create still life and landscape art inspired by the world around you. July 25–29 Course # 22C10CAMP BE A CREATOR – WEEK 11 It’s time to really get creative in this non-traditional art camp. You’ll create collaborative works using non-traditional art tools and explore new ways to get paint on paper. Curiosity is King and Queen in this art camp! Course # 22C11CAMP August 1–5

This summer camp is a fabulous way to have fun and be expressive by creating outfits and accessories under the guidance of a professional designer. Course #22C02SPCA May 31–June 3 Non-Member: $295 Member: $275 PHOTOGRAPHY (4 DAY CAMP) – WEEK 2 At a time when anyone with a smartphone can be called a “photographer,” this camp teaches skills to take smartphone photography to the next level. The focus will be on shaping this generation of photographers to stand out amongst an increasingly crowded field and to develop an extraordinary way of looking through the lens. FILM PRODUCTION – WEEK 6 Lights! Camera! Action! A lot goes into making a film that tells a good story. This camp is a great introduction to the fundamentals of filmmaking. You’ll work with your team to write, direct, shoot, and edit your film. No experience is necessary, and who knows–maybe you’ll discover that filmmaking is the career for you! A laptop, camera and editing software will be provided. This camp is for the students who love to know what goes on behind the scenes! In Elements of Theatre, students will learn all about what goes into the making of a theatrical production.
