29 February 2012 Dear Parent/Guardian, YOUTH ALPHA – BAPTISM AND COMMUN IO N As we have been going through the Youth Alpha Course, several of our young people have been asking about taking Communion. Springfield, following guidelines from the Church of England, has an agreed policy for children to take Communion. If your child has been regularly coming along to Youth Alpha this term and is either planning to be baptised at Easter, or has been baptised, then we would love them to attend a small course on Communion, led by Will. This will then “qualify” them to take Communion in church – a very significant part of their Christian life. Obviously this is a very important decision for your child to make and it might not be the right time for them to take it, which is absolutely fine. We will be running sessions on other occasions. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams will be coming to church on Sunday 18th March, 2012, to help celebrate Springfield’s 20th Anniversary. We think this would be a wonderful opportunity for your children to take their first Communion! The Communion sessions will be held on 2 evenings: 13th and 15th March and will be held at the Springfield Centre, RossParade, Wallington from 6-7.15pm. BOTH sessions will need to be attended, as well as having been to the large majority of the Youth Alpha course, in order to qualify to take Communion. Authorisation for receiving communion at Springfield will mean that they are authorised to receive in any church of the Church of England. If your child is interested in doing these sessions, then pleaselet me know ASAP.If you have any questions or queries pleasedo contact me. Many Thanks,
