KEEP AWAY Living in the lighted streets we draw the shade from frolic’s breath. Let alone your occult start ,I hope you turned your share apart. Preludio leads our way to the grandest treads, Aloha, we are all set to rock you on our part. Insti is all flooded with lights of ILLU. Color sparkle out the rangoli return. Tempo thrills the oldest woods, As we enter the history’s tread. Spring enters the month of autumn, And we see the maple turn brighter.
Two months to go, and here we are back again ,back as the crescent moon, ready to go full on tune. The Grand Preludio of SF ‘11 romped its way into the hearts of KGP junta with ‘Cross‐Roads’, the last of the campus fresher events which was very well received. It was then followed by a comedy show by Dheeraj Dua, India’s leading mimicry artist, which was a league apart. These were two days when KGP which saw the mirage of the real thing itself. It is again that time of the year when different halls of residence sweat it out as the battle for the matka full of rosogullas, a.k.a ILLU & RANGOLI, is back! As the winter creeps in and cool breeze starts tilling our souls with the songs of Autumn leaves, this Vaani brings you the very latest from SF and KGP. Two months passed when we started but the next two months are here to stay! Regards, Team Spring Fest
Season’s greetings to all our readers! The festival of light is here again. The season of diya wiring, colour mixing, night outs, hall tempo, the spirit of diwali ,a.k.a. illumination and rangoli, is back! All the small tinges of happiness associated with these create a recipe totally unknown to the world outside. The late night diya wiring sessions where we keep yawning over and over again, the frustration when a diya gets de‐wired, mixing of colors to produce amazing shades, all of these shades lying on floor on newspapers, sealed common room, minuteness and every detailing, the level of perfection that rangoli gods of each hall have‐the memories of each of these will remain etched in our hearts forever. The goose bumps on seeing the rangoli in all its glory is one of the most unforgettable experiences in a KGPian’s life. On the final day, multiple tables stacked on top of each other, oil falling from the top, the wick of lighted candle burning the hands, announcement of judges coming, jumping from an unimaginable height ,throwing the tables somewhere they cant be seen, fighting to hide at a place form where chatais can be seen properly, coming out after the judges have left and seeing the chatai illuminated are some of the best memories of them all! This year, RP Hall of Residence grabbed the gold in ILLU while LLR emerged as the winner in RANGOLI.

The entire first year population of KGP caught the SF virus with ‘The Cross‐roads’, a campus treasure‐hunt event, with the same theme as that of the fest‐horror. The first years had to make teams of 5 and go around the academic complex cracking the clues which then lead them to the aspect here was that each next venue. The innovative venue had two clues to choose from. Teams were given a set of riddles at each venue to solve a given crossword. The event was very well received by the first year junta.
This was followed by a Stand‐up comedy by Chulbul Pandey a.k.a Dheeraj Dua( of the Laughter India Challenge fame), India’s leading mimicry artist, on 27th October. He performed to a packed Kalidas auditorium. His mimicry kept students and professors alike rapt in attention and left them asking for an encore. It was a perfect start to what promises to be the biggest Spring Fest ever!

Behind the name "Halloween", or the "Hallow E'en" as they call it in Ireland, means 'All Hallows Eve', or the night before the 'All Hallows', also called 'All Hallowmas', or 'All Saints', or 'All Souls' Day, observed on November 1. The history of Halloween dates back to 5th century BC, to the Celtic celebration of the dead on November 1. They say that on November 1 the disembodied spirits of all those who had died throughout the preceding year would come back in search of living bodies to possess for the next year. Naturally, the still living did not want to be possessed. So on the night of October 31, villagers would extinguish the fires in their homes, to make them cold and undesirable. They would then dress up in all manner of ghoulish costumes and noisily paraded around, being as destructive as possible in order to frighten away spirits looking for bodies to possess. A traditional food eaten on Halloween is barnbrack, a kind of fruitcake that can be bought in stores or baked at home. A muslin‐wrapped treat is baked inside the cake that, it is said, can foretell the eater's future. Halloween has always been related to witches. Halloween is the 8th largest card‐sending occasion. There are over 28 million Halloween cards sent each year!
