Stop by between 11 AM and 2 PM to search for hidden treasures brought in by residents finishing up their springcleaning and cleared from the library’s shelves.

Coming Soon – Programs for Adults - The Staff at the SPL are busy finalizing details for 2 programs for our adult patrons. One is a program about our pets and how we deal with their loss. The other is a mystery writers’ workshop. Check our web site, or stop by the library for updates on these fascinating programs!

The Library is Going to the Dogs (again). This time Linda Robison and friends will visit the SPL with their agility dogs to show us “How to be your dog’s best friend”. Come for an hour and

learn everything

from training and grooming, to activities you can do with your dog to help keep them active, such as obedience, agility, rally and working/volunteer working such as therapy.

Animal Senses Kim, from the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, will be visiting the SPL and bringing her own special posse. Come in and meet live snakes, turtles, frogs and owls and investigate how they use their senses to survive in the wild. Learn about the keen senses of a wide array of different animals. Sprague Public Library Joins Bibliomation! The Library Board of Trustees have voted to join the Bibliomation

Consortium of Libraries. Over the next few months we’ll be working hard to update the library software, and integrate our materials with the Evergreen portion of the consortium. By the summer time there will be a vast improvement in library service. Stop by the library for more information! The Power of the Penny See how much your pennies are really worth by helping the Sprague Public Library collect pennies! First Selectman Cathy Osten kicked off the library’s first ever Penny Drive by emptying her change into our fish bowl. Start saving your pennies now, and bring your pennies to the library beginning April 1 2010. Pennies will be collected until we reach the 500,000 mark or June 1, 2010 (which ever comes first) Money raised by the penny drive will be used to purchase projector for the library, Movie License, and new DVDs for a special family movie series. The Yarn Club Our new Yarn Club has been a big success. We have consistently had 10 members; some veteran knitters, but most beginners and some crocheters. Come when you can or come every week and enjoy new friends, relax, share ideas, projects

and good conversation every Saturday from 1:00-3:00.

Afternoon Delight Book Club The Afternoon Delight Book Club met on Wednesday, March 3, to discuss the books Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich, and The Sunday Philosophy Club by, Alexander McCall Smith, the author of The Ladies No 1 Detective Agency Series. After much discussion book club members agreed Nickel and Dimed is “an eye opener, worth reading, thought provoking, and everyone should read it.” Some members felt that the book The Sunday Philosophy Club was: “readable, nothing earth shattering, forgettable, and not quite as good as The Ladies No 1 Detective Agency. Others felt it was a light enjoyable read. Both books are available at the library The book selections for April are Between Sisters by Kristen Hannah, and The Help by Kathryn Stockett. Food for Fines Food for Fines has ended. The staff at the Sprague public library would like to thank everyone for their generosity. Many people took advantage of this program to clear away old debts. Others simply brought in food to donate to the food pantry.

Pre-School Story Time Pre-school story time meets each Tuesday at 1 PM and will continue throughout the spring

and into May 2010. This program is geared toward 3 to 6 year olds. We will read some great books, sing songs, play games, and more!

Tiny Tots Tiny Tots is geared toward children 18 months to 3 years old. This program meets Thursdays at 10:30 AM in the children's room. The program includes great simple books, songs, rhymes, movement activities and a craft to take home as a follow up from the story time.

Bedtime Stories.. Wear your coziest pajamas, a comfy robe and warmest slippers and come in for the most relaxing series of bedtime stories. Kristin will read some of the all time classic bedtime stories as well as some new favorites.
