SPOTLIGHT PROGRAMS BOARD

Supported by Student Fees studentaffairs.gsu.edu

MISSION Spotlight Programs Board is a university-sponsored, student-driven program of the Georgia State University Student Center that coordinates activities to enhance and enrich the quality of student life at Georgia State. Spotlight addresses the needs and interests of the diverse student body by providing social, cultural, educational and entertainment events on campus. Most events are free and open to the university community and range from movies, speaking events and concerts to novelty events, trips to metro area attractions and much more. Popular events include the Distinguished Speaker Series, Panther Prowls, Homecoming festivities, Campus MovieFest, Georgia State Nights at local Atlanta attractions and the annual Pantherpalooza spring concert.

COMMITTEES Arts & Culture

Present inspiring elements of the arts to the Georgia State University student body. Potential events include Gallery Lounge art exhibits, student art competitions and Georgia State Night at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Plan and implement progams and events for graduate, professional and nontraditional students to venues and attractions that the Atlanta area has to offer. Potential events include Georgia State Nights at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, Six Flags, Georgia Aquarium, sporting event game nights and haunted houses like Netherworld.

Membership

Spirit & Traditions

Marketing

Plan and organize volunteer opportunities for the smooth operation of programs by maintaining a current roster of active volunteers and conducting membership meetings and training sessions.

Promote school spirit and maintain traditions suited to the needs and interests of the entire student body. Potential events include the Homecoming Royal Ball, golf cart parade, Homecoming Court, graduation week and the annual Greek Showcase.

BE A PART OF THE SPOTLIGHT FAMILY Spotlight produces many large scale events and is always looking for students to help ensure that those events run well and are successful. It is simple to volunteer. To volunteer for Spotlight, students may serve as: Volunteers: No commitment! Help out Spotlight during any event and get your feet wet! Committee Members: It’s easy to join and put your unique skills to work while helping plan and execute the events! Event Leads: Take the lead and oversee a specific event that interests you. Gain great skills planning a specific event from start to finish! Committee Chairs: Be a part of the Spotlight Executive Board and oversee the committee members and volunteers who help with each event. These are paid stipend positions that develop a lot of skills including event planning, managing your peers, contracts/negotiations and budget oversight. Build your resume! Students who have questions should contact the membership chair or stop by the Spotlight office.
