What is Solent Health Spark? Feeling good, looking great, functioning well, being happy and getting the most out of your life today and in the future – good health is a crucial resource for all of these things. Solent Health Spark is here to help create supportive environments for health, enabling staff and students to take more control over and improve their health and well-being.

Creating a healthier University We recognise that the settings in which people live their day-to-day lives are crucially important in determining their health & well-being. Here’s how we can help you take more control over and improve your health.

Move More, Work and Play Better! Modern society forces us to sit for prolonged periods which can be bad for our health. We provide solutions to help you avoid long periods of sitting by supporting you to walk, cycle and use the stairs instead of the lifts. By moving more each day you can make a big difference to how many calories you burn and your overall health. Move more in the day by taking part in our Pedometer Challenges, stair climbing competitions, active sitting courses and other opportunities to get staff and students moving as much as possible during their busy day!

Health Checks

Solent Health Spark makes it easy for you to find out some of your key health indicators on campus. Look out for our convenient drop-in Body MOTs (body fat, muscle mass, metabolic age…), blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose and bone density checks.

Five Ways to Well-being: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning & Give Find out how we create opportunities to help you do more of the ‘five ways to well-being’ activities, which focus on evidence based techniques that are easy to do and suitable for all ages and life circumstances. These activities will help you look after your mental well-being so you can get the most out of life and be Mind Fit!

Keep learning for better health

Learning is one of the five ways to improve your well-being. We provide a range of workshops and short courses to give you the skills and confidence to improve your health. We offer one-to-one healthy lifestyle advice and feel good programmes, personal training, massage programmes and courses including back care, positive psychology, mindfulness and nutrition.

Fuel up, feel good, look great! – Healthy Eating on Campus What we eat makes a big difference to how we feel and look and how much energy we have for a productive day or big night out. Solent Health Spark has joined forces with the Student Union to offer you great value healthy food choices that help you to look good, feel great, power you through the day and give you enough “oomph” for nights out! Just look for the Health Spark green label!

Bicycle User Group Solent (BUGS) – Supporting Active Travel Moving more is key to better health. What could be more fun than getting on your bike? Being fitter, beating the rush hour traffic, helping the environment and saving yourself money are just some of the benefits! We support bicycle users through our regular FREE bicycle service events, cycle training and discounts at local bike shops. We also refurbish and sell bikes through our recycled bike scheme, so you can pick up a great deal.
