Now that Allyson is retired she has found another passion that is growing her sportswear startup. Interview with Charles Huerta

Italia Sosa: My first question is, how was your experience at Paramount high school?

Charles Huerta: My experience at Paramount high school was awesome. The school really supported me in my boxing and I met my really great friends there, and some of them are still my friends now. That's even where I met my wife, me and my wife went to the same school.

Italia Sosa: Aww that's so cute! My other question is, how does it feel to know that twelve of your wins were by KO’s?

Charles Huerta: Knock outs are always good in boxing. I mean yeah knocking someone out was always good and you feel good after knocking someone out just as long as they did not get too hurt. But yeah, some of my knockouts have been my best.

Italia Sosa: That sounds fun.

Charles Huerta: It can be yeah.

Italia Sosa: Those are all the questions I have for you today. Thank you for answering.

Charles Huerta: Thank you!

Lana Gonzalez: My first question is, When did you know you wanted to fight?

Interview By: Lana Gonzales, Italia Sosa, Jose Sandoval & Jody Noel

Charles Huerta: So when I was growing up my dad was already a boxing coach when I was a newborn so that's kinda all I knew. It's what was around me. I just followed him into the training, fine as already, so I always wanted to go to the boxing gym and, that's all I kinda knew. It was boxing and I wanted to be a boxer.

Lana Gonzalez: My second question is, what was your favorite fight?

Charles Huerta: have a few of them, but I think one noble one that stands out to me is when I had a long way off and I returned and then was given the opportunity by golden boy to fight an undefeated prospect that was supposed to beat me. And that was my favorite fight because I won, showed everyone that I was good.

Lana Gonzalez: Thank you.

Charles Huerta: Thank you.

Jose Sandoval: At what age did you start boxing?

Charles Huerta: So I started boxing when I was eight years old and I was already competing. So at eight years old in boxing you can have your first amateur fight. But I was already in the gym 2,3,4 years old. I was already in the gym boxing but, i started competing at eight years old.

Jose Sandoval: When did you get noticed and who did you get noticed by?

Charles Huerta: So I fought amature for a long time. I started getting noticed obviously when I started going to the national tournaments. I even made the U.S. Team and started traveling to compete in the world championships and when I fought with U.S.A. We started fighting in London & Sweden here and there. But in the pros, it wasn't until my third or fourth fight when golden boy reached out to me and gave me the opportunity to fight on their card. After fighting there, they liked what they saw and they signed me.

Jose Sandoval: Thank you.

Charles Huerta: Thank you.

Jody Noel: My first question is, if you didn't start boxing what would you be doing now?

Charles Huerta: That's a great question. I don't know. I just always since I was little had wanted to do boxing. It was always, boxing, boxing, and more boxing. To me it was always being a boxer. It was my dream and I knew I was going to do it when I was older. But now since I'm semi-retired, thinking back to that, I think I want to do something in fitness. Possibly a fitness trainer or coach. I think that I've always wanted to keep my career in fitness or boxing.

Jody Noel: My next question is, do you make money from your fights?

Charles Huerta: Yes! Every time I fought, the best one I got paid. So that's how I made my living.

Jody Noel: That's nice. Thank you.

Charles Huerta: Thank you.

Q&A By: Raquel Fay, Abigail Limon, Katelyn Solis, Italia Sosa and Lana Gonzalez
Recorded and typed by: Katelyn Solis

Katelyn: Hi my name is Katelyn and my question is, who or what inspired you to start boxing?

Luis: So it started with my father. I’m actually Puerto Rican. In Puerto Rico boxing is a huge sport and It was basically passed down through my family we're big boxing fans through my dad’s and I started watching boxing at like 3 years old and I fell in love with the sport. Then one day when I was seven years old, I was like, I wanna be a boxer. So that’s how I started and here I am two to twenty three years later

Katelyn: That’s nice. That was my only question for you, thank you for your time.

Luis: No problem

Italia: Hi my name’s Italia and I’m from Desert Ridge Academy and my question for you today is if you wouldn’t have chosen boxing as your career what other career would you have taken?

Luis: So I actually went to school so I got my bachelor degree in criminology and law studies from Marquette University. So I would’ve gone federal for sure FBI, CIA & DIA. The thing is I do have a backup plan which I always recommend to everybody, you know even if your strapping in sports, or something general in life, you know having a back up plan I had mine, so yeah. Even when my career is over I could still pursue that which is a good thing because I put the work in. I already have that, so that is something I would’ve gone in if it wasn’t for boxing.

Italia: So then my second and final question for you is, when you first became famous was it weird to you?

Luis: No, I don’t consider myself famous-famous no but, no not at all. As long as you know I’m the kind of person that stays true to myself and you know I don't let that kind of stuff bring me up or bring me down and I just stay true to myself. So no, so to answer your question no.

Italia: Okay thank you for your time.

Luis: No problem

Lana: Hi my name is Lana and I have two questions for you.

Luis: Go ahead, go for it.

Lana: If there was something that would make you quit boxing in particular?

Luis: No I mean it’s just something I’ve been doing for a long time. I’ve been doing this since I was seven years old. This is what I wanted to pursue. I mean it could have gone many routes, but this is something that you know wanting to become a professional. Now I´m pursuing of becoming a World Champion. I'm a go getter. So I will get to continue to pursue what I'm shooting for

Lana: Ok for my second question is how do you feel advancing your career?

Luis: I feel good you know this what I feel like that advancement basically means is growing and learning everyday and to continue to learn. Being a better person and be a better fighter That's what it is all about so that's for me is my advancement. So as long as I´m learning and continuing to grow and being a better person everyday than more advancing.

Lana: Ok thank you.

Luis: No problem

Abigail: Hello I´m Abigail Limon and I´m from Desert Ridge Academy. I have one question for you today. Should we begin?

Luis: Yeah

Abigail: What is one thing you´ll say to the younger generation coming into boxing?

Luis: I would say you got to work your butt off and literally there's like sometimes the younger generation will get excuses and it's easier going that route but I feel like you know you got to work and you got to put the work into it and you can't complain, you can´t make up excuses. I mean if you want it, but you just got to go get it. Simple as that! It's not a difficult formula we all have different paths and different background and this and that but there is always one formula were they just gotta no excuse work your butt off and you´ll get there and it will take you somewhere. It's all about how much you want it. That I mean, kinda straightforward and that's what I´ll tell them to the younger generation and not only with boy but just in general.

Abigail: Thank you.

Raquel: Hi I'm Raquel Fay and I represent Desert Ridge Academy and if its okay with you lets begin.

Luis: Yep.

Raquel: Do you have a nickname, if so how did you get it?

Luis: No I don´t. Like that's Actually a popular question I get like oh do you have a nickname or like why don´t you have a nickname. I will just keep it Simple, its Luis Feliciano is my name. You know I never thought to have a nickname, so no I don't. To answer your question, no.

Raquel: when will be your next fight?

Luis: My next fight will be in July. I don't have any good details yet but it will be in july. It's gonna look like it's gonna be something big, so that's why I´m back in vegas. I'm starting to prepare for that. I´ll have the full details when I get them but it will be in july

Raquel: Ok thank you.

This concludes the Interview. Thank you very much

NASCAR is the great racing program where people race cars. NASCAR came to life in February. 20, 1948. A gentleman by the name of Bill France Sr. saw how many people wanted to see other people show off their car skills. Bill decided to make a race company where people not only show their cars, but they compete with the cars to see who's the best. After a while it grew and grew and became NASCAR the company.

In order to be a real NASCAR driver you need to be at least 19 and have a NASCAR license. NASCAR can be very dangerous. because not only is it a very dangerous thing you can get badly hurt if not careful. NASCAR does not supply the driver with health insurance, as the drivers supply their own. NASCAR drivers use sponsorships which are basically like contracts.

NASCAR drivers stay safe by using a certified helmet and fire equipment incase of a fire or a crash. The money the driver has to pay in order to get into a car is about $10m per year. NASCAR is a very expensive, but an exciting sport.
