Golf Club Newsflash Message from Golf Management The Golf Academy is a significant and valued service of the Serengeti Golf Club. We are extremely proud of this facility and the specialists that manage this operation, and two such individuals are Biokinetikist, Garth Milne, and Physiotherapist, Samantha Quinn. Garth and Samantha have been invited to speak at the World Golf Fitness Summit in Orlando, USA in October later this year. The summit is a global gathering of golf coaches, fitness experts, medical specialists, mental coaches and anybody involved in teaching the game of golf. Over 1500 delegates from all over the world are expected to attend of which only 45 specialists will present on their area of expertise. This is a huge honour, and is testimony to the level of service that Serengeti Academy has to offer its clients. The Golf Academy offers a variety of services including private and children’s group coaching, a fully equipped fitness centre, personal training, swing assessments, a club fitment facility, indoor hitting nets and physiotherapy facility. Should you be interested in making bookings or require more information, please contact 011 552 7200 or email Please note that from now until the end of August, we will be running a two tee start on week-ends and public holidays. Refer to our “Golf Events” on the following page for some exciting events including the “Feel Like a Pro” event which runs until October and the Sanlam Cancer Challenge on 12 May. “Non Golf Events” include Mothers Day on Sunday 13 th May. A decision has been made for the Kids Zone to offer a complimentary service at future events. We have received a few queries regarding bunker rakes, and thought we would address this in this newsflash Why no rakes?” Initially the Club did provide rakes in all the bunkers and on the carts, but later decided against this, only supplying rakes on carts . This is for one reason and one reason only. “The look and feel of the golf course!” A minimum of 100 rakes (one every 10 meters) would be required on the right side of the bunker on hole 13, for example, and this would affect the aesthetics and visual impression of that hole and its rugged edge bunkers - a special design feature of the course. A similar problem would be created on the 4 th hole of Masai Mara with another 80 rakes required on the left hand side of that bunker. If golfers are not taking a cart and prefer to walk, we ask that they carry a mini rake which can be obtained from one of the golf operations staff members. These are light and easy to carry. We trust that you appreciate our objective to maintain a visually appealing golf course and between you and your golf partner carry and utilize the rake for the benefit of other fellow golfers. A new menu has been recently introduced at the Deck Restaurant and we encourage you to come dine with us and try some of the delicious new items. In the mean time, just to tantalise those taste buds, we have mentioned a few: Starter : “Mushroom Thermidor Au Gratin– Grilled black mushroom, saute pranws and spicy cheese gratinee topped with crisy bacon” Main: “Serengeti Ribs– 800gr of the finest pork ribs, char grilled and basted with a rich BBQ sauce” Dessert: “Baked Chocolate pudding with liquid Mocha centre”
