Golf Club Newsflash Message from Golf Management This past week-end we hosted our most successful Club Championships yet, with a field of 100 members. Unfortunately the weather prevented three ‘A division’ groups from finishing and scores for only the ‘A division’ were taken from the completed first round scores. It made no difference to the outcome of the Club Championship as Graeme Watson regained the title he lost to Graeme vd Berg in 2011. Graeme played superb golf, shooting 67 (-5) in the first and, up until the storm hit, was again another 3 under for round two with a birdie putt of 1 foot on the 17 th, which I am sure he would have made, giving him a combined total of -9 for the tournament. Brilliant scoring!!! Compliments to the events, golf and food & beverage departments for hosting a successful event. The golf course was prepared to perfection and for this we thank Shaun Britz and his team for all their hard work. Two highlights to mention, include up and coming stars, Kyle McClatchie, age 14, who shot 74 in the first round and thus won the Junior Club Championship. Jayden Schaper, only 11year old, shot 73 in the final round (Jayden has won for the second consecutive year, the world qualifying tournament which took place recently at Bronkhorstspruit where he shot 77 & 75! He will participate in the US kids World Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina in August this year) So…. the future of Serengeti golf looks most promising! Our congratulations go to all the division winners, Ladies Club Champion, Johanita Schoeman, Seniors Club Champion, Stephen Jacobs and our Founder Member Club Champion, Scott Dickson. We thank all our members for their support and participation. It is wonderful to see how such a positive and enthusiastic spirit has developed with the increase of memberships over the past year! See following page for images. The back nine holes are now open and thus the full 27 holes operational. We encourage you to make use of the 9 hole pitch and play Whistling Thorn course, which is particularly suited to the beginner golfer or for a casual week-end game. Would all fitness centre members note that a bicycle rack has been positioned downstairs outside the Golf Academy, should you wish to cycle to the gym. Please support our braai meal at the Deck restaurant on Friday evenings. You can enjoy rolls, salads and a selection of meats for R75 pp and half price for kids. The Happy Hour and Lucky Draw continues with an accumulated amount of R3500 in club house spend, to be won this coming Friday. Thank you Golf Management
