Ismaili Hotel Toronto, ON

Robbie Sane Architects Jan 2012 Located adjacent to the Ismaili Center in midtown Toronto, this project was a hotel proposal to the Ismaili center, offering living accommodation to the upcoming international visitors. The hotel comprised of 12 hotel floors with average of 25 room units per floor, a penthouse, a cultural garden, underground parking and a market. The design of this proposal carefully considered the cultural values of the foreign visitors and the building was designed to accommodate private meetings, as well as public visits.

Botanical Garden Toronto, ON

Waterloo Architecture August 2012 Located in Humberbay, Toronto, the Royal Nepenthe Botanical Garden is designed to house tropical species of nepenthe plants. The building incudes a lecture hall, science labs, classrooms, an exhibition, a nursery and a common space. The goal of this design is to have a self-feeding and pest control building for the carnivorous plants inside the nursery and exhibition areas. Local insects are attracted into the plantation rooms and would serve to feed the plants.

Canadian Center for Architecture Toronto, ON

Waterloo Architecture April 2011 Located on McCaul street downtown Toronto in a highly mixed used neighborhood, the archive’s programme is divided into public, exhibition, office and storage spaces. The entrance of the building features a cafe and an exhibition space that integrates the building with the urban neighborhood. The main concept of this building is to build an urban lightbox in downtown Toronto area, where the exhibition at the center symbolizes the source of light. The skin of the exhibition room is veneered with green limestone, and the interior has white marble tile flooring, giving the space a jewel appearance.

Prefab L.

Cambridge, ON Design Competition for Habitat for Humanity December 2011 Located on 131 Grand Avenue in Cambridge, his project was an entry to the Habitat for Humanity Design Challenge to design an economical and sustainable single detached residential building. Prefab L’s main modular concept is the (4m x 2.5m) premanufactured wall unit that is customizable on the interior and exterior sides using different Vinyl products including interior veneer and exterior siding. Instead of the typical complete pre-fab box housing units that would be planted directly on the site, this modular wall concept allows a more efficient transportation process and provides volunteering labor opportunities for nearby communities and partner families to take part in building the new home.

This strategy is also effectively planned for disassembly and recycling of the building. It is designed for a lowincome family of 4-6 with a maximized use of passive heating and cooling strategy to maintain a comfortable and healthy lifestyle for the dwellers.

Fibonacci Shell New York, USA

Steel Design Competition April 2010 The project is located on Conservatory Water in Central Park, New York. The shape of this steel pavilion is generated by the Fibonacci Sequence. The spacing of the bracing members follows strictly to the Fibonacci Sequence, imitating the origin and growth of all organisms. Its structure mimics that of a seashell which makes it possible for very light steel members to span across long distances. The structure sits above lake water, and boats can cross underneath to experience the contrast between its weight and size. The focus of this design is to integrate natural structure into steel construction application to explore new possibilities in steel design.
