Temple Mayor Signs Fraternal Week Proclamation. Mayor John Sammons, Jr., Mayor of the City of Temple, met recently with officers and representatives of the Texas Fraternal Congress at the Ponderosa Inn in Temple for the signing of the Fraternal Week Proclamation. Temple Mayor Signs Fraternal Week and Flag Day Proclamation Temple Mayor John Sammons, Jr., recently signed a proclamation designating the week of June 8-14 Fraternal Week in Temple and called upon citizens to join in observing Flag Day on June 14. Mayor Sammons affixed his signature to the document in the presence of a delegation representing several Texas Fraternal Benefit Societies. Members of the delegation were as shown in the accompanying photo.

The SPJST is a member of the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA), an association of 99 Fraternal Benefit Societies with a total membership of more than ten million. Each year these Societies observe Fraternal Week by holding special ceremonies and activities for the public in thousands of local lodges in communities throughout the United States. The highlight of the week this year will be the patriotic ceremonies on Flag Day to honor the Flag of the United States. Mayor Sammons commended the fraternal representatives for their patriotism and urged all citizens of Temple and surrounding areas to take part in the observance by (Continued on Page 4)

Sister Albina Vanicek Outlives Policy Sister Albina Vanicek of Temple attained the grand age of 96 April 1, 1983, and became the 63rd person in the history of the SPJST to outlive the actuarial table of her life insurance policy. A lifetime membership certificate was presented to her during a special

ceremony April 10, 1983. Sister Vanicek was honored by the presence of numerous members of her family, a host of friends and several officials of SPJST Lodge No. 24. Lodge No. 24 President David Vanicek extended congratulations to Sister Vanicek in behalf of the local lodge. Brother Vanicek, the grandson of the honoree, is currently president of the local lodge.
