COMMENTARIES ON Dd. SPUNGIN
The word I associate with poetry by Dd. Spungin is “mindfulness.” Doreen is blessed or cursed (depending on your point of view) with being able to see situations from many sides, in all their complexities. She is a clever, concise, punch-packing poet who causes her readers to re-examine the world around us, even as she causes us to self-reflect. When we begin a journey with Doreen, there is no fixed destination in sight. All that can be known for sure is that the scenery will be rich in word-play, and we will not be disappointed when we reach our ah-ha moment.
- BARBARA MOORE
Dd. Spungin‟s moments of metaphoric discoveries soar with a sense of childish wonder, and her recollections, though verging on nostalgia, she pines not with backward glance at some irreconcilable past, or some slippery what-could-have-beens, but those that are transitioning yet in the promising moments of acceptance and peaceful surrender. Her poetry instantly hits the senses with distinct style and voice – tone and construct always complimenting each other with deft technicality – never an imagery or word too inordinately off-tangent. Spungin‟s metaphors exude a certain kind of vivacious allure, or youthful sophistication in that she must be writing from an untapped inkwell, brimming to inspiring proportions for everyday poets and/or readers to discover and enjoy.
