BARBICAN “The Barbican is Europe's largest multi-arts and conference venue presenting a diverse range of art, music, theatre, dance, film and education events. My personal interest in the BARBICAN CENTRE is due to having spent a lot of time there. My grandparents after emigrating to LONDON from South Africa in the 70s bought and apartment in SHAKESPEARE TOWER from Douglas Fairbanks. Some of my earliest memories are from the BARBICAN and I was keen to explore its environment. Using typography and photography I have created various responses to the modernist architecture in the aim of producing contemporary graphic design. Being created in the post war years as a means of reinvigorating the city of London, my hope was to express how the visual language of the BARBICAN is still relevant to us today.
