SAFETY AND SECURITY FOR

IMMIGRANTS The Inclusive Safety and Security for Immigrants project (OTE-M) The goal for the project ‘Inclusive Safety and Security for Immigrants’ (OTE-M) is to improve the safety skills of people with immigrant backgrounds and to advance both their integration and Finnish safety culture. At the same time it is possible to develop the inclusion of the immigrant population and improve cooperation among fire brigades, immigrants, and immigrant organisations.

Safety and security Safety and security consist of everyday safety and living safety as well as fire and evacuation safety, rescue safety, electrical safety, safety of mobility and traffic safety, and the sense of security ‒ not forgetting support from other people.

The project period The project will be implemented from 2019 to 2021. The pilot project began in March 2019 in the area of the Häme Rescue Association, and the activities will later be spread to the other parts of the country. The project is funded by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations STEA and the association for advancing fire protection (Palosuojelun edistämissäätiö).

Materials and working methods The project will generate materials for immigrants in simplified language, from which several other language versions will also be made. The project will utilise the already existing materials and methods created to support everyday life and living and they will be further developed to suit people with immigrant backgrounds. The project utilises the Safety Bag concept which includes numerous safety technologies to ensure the safety of living and everyday life.

Events Project events will be organised together with different partners and local rescue departments. The Finnish National Rescue Association coordinates the activities.
