C/S Project #156859 Re: Brake shaped metal for fire barrier flange attachment
Mr. Pridemore, In reference to the above mentioned project it has come to our attention that there is concern for the use a vapor barrier material in front of the fire barrier component which seems to interrupt the intent of having a metal cover over the fire barrier as listed in UL #FF-D-2009. To mitigate this concern, we recommend the use of our 2mil stainless steel foil behind the vapor barrier but in front of the fire barrier to satisfy the UL listing intent. You will find the acceptance of the 2mil stainless steel foil in section 2.B. The foil will be attached in the same manner as the vapor barrier material, “sandwiched” between the frames of the EJC system and the substrate. This will function in the same manner as the UL indicates with the galvanized washer strips, with a continuous “clamping” action of the foil. For example, this type of installation is similar to the installation of a “gasketed” type system over a fire barrier where a metal cover is not available and is to be fulfilled by the stainless steel foil. It is in our opinion that the use of the 2mil stainless steel foil, as detailed herein behind the vapor barrier, will follow the intent of the UL listing and that the fire rated assembly will perform up to its listed rating. If additional information is required, please feel free to contact us. Sincerely,
