Every day, we at Spectrum strive to help you live life to the fullest by creating exciting, new experiences for you to enjoy and look back on. Following all of the compelling events and activities that we brought to you last month, we are delighted to introduce even more fun and creative ways for you to enrich your lives in February. With Valentine’s Day and other special events right around the corner, we encourage you to join us and connect with one another for the myriad of entertaining activities and programs that we have planned for you. Together, we will celebrate many things from our past while creating all-new memories, friendships, and accomplishments for our future. In addition to recognizing the present “month of love”, we will explore another monumental time in our rich history. We are most excited to bring you our main event, Art Through the Ages, which will feature intergenerational art pieces from within your own community, as well as pieces by local artists and artisans who will have their unique works on display. Each passing decade brings remarkable events and innovations that have shaped and molded our present and our future. This month, let us reflect together on another very unique time of our lives...

February 2014

The Decade of Resolution: 1910-1919 Many will remember this decade as a turning point in history: The United States bravely entered the First World War (1914-1919). Despite the feeling of uncertainty that the world experienced during that time, many exciting new innovations were still developing. Einstein published his Theory of Relativity, ballroom dancing and silent films became ever more popular, and inventions like the Pop-Up Toaster were introduced, adding efficiency to our daily lives. Perhaps one of the most talked-about news stories of our lifetime occurred: The famed Titanic passenger ocean liner was conceived and tragically destroyed after colliding with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1912. During this time of our lives, so many extraordinary events occurred. Let us look back and ponder the incredible happenings of this time. What events or stories do you remember the most? How have these events and innovations shaped your life and our country over time? We look forward to seeing you at each of our planned events and activities – be sure to keep your eye out for more details on our main event: Art Through the Ages!

Thoughts from the Director of Fun

February Main Event

In February, our focus will be on the years 1910-1919, the “Decade of Resolution.” Make time to join us in the theater to examine events that happened in this decade: World War I: American Legacy on the 3rd and The Sinking of the Titantic on the 26th. We will be going to the Denver Art Museum on the 5th to see the “Passport to Paris” exhibit, which features Impressionist artists, many of whom completed their works in the decade we are focusing on this month. February is thought of as the month of Love, but really, isn’t Valentine’s Day about celebrating your friendships, too? Consider sending Valentine cards to your friends and neighbors here in the community. If you would like to make a special gift for your friend, the Crazy 4 Beads lady will be back on the 3rd for a

This month our residents will have the opportunity to visit HighPointe, Spectrum’s newest community here in Denver for an inter-community event on Wed., Feb. 26th. HighPointe provides assisted living

bead party. We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on the 14th with our special dinner and dance, with entertainment by Patty Shaw, saxophonist. Many of you raved about the entertainer for our New Year’s Eve party. Jerry Galloway will be back to entertain for the birthday dinner on February 27th. We are planning the annual Lakeview Resident Art Show on the 28th from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the community. Our residents are incredibly talented artists and it is such fun to see your work displayed. Anyone who would like to participate please let me know how many works you would like to show by the 20th.

Please welcome Michael Noorman as Lakeview’s new Director of Dining Services. Michael received his culinary arts training at Johnson & Wales University and his associate degree in culinary management from Grand Rapids Community College. He has worked over 12 years in country clubs, yacht clubs, business and athletic clubs, 3 years in a fine dining seafood restaurant, 3 years with a 4-star hotel, and 7 years in healthcare dining services. Prior to joining us, he was Director of Dining Services/Executive Chef with Merrill Gardens, a high-end retirement community in Seattle. His wife was just transferred to Denver for

a new job and so we were fortunate to entice him to Lakeview. Give Michael a chance to get settled in his new position for a few months, but I am sure he will want to hear from you soon as to what foods and menu items you most enjoy. As you all know, our previous Dining Services Director Rob Brandi is battling cancer. If anyone would like to send him a card or note, please drop it by the front desk and we will forward those to him. To those folks who already sent notes, Rob asked me to relay his appreciation for your thoughtfulness.

and memory care. There will be a speaker and lunch will be provided. This will be a great way to meet new friends from other Spectrum communities here in Colorado.

Community Spotlight Wouldn’t it be nice to reduce your rent by $1000? Our resident referral program is a great way to do just that. We want to remind you that we reward you for sending your family and friends to Lakeview. Where else do you have the ability to choose your neighbor? We make it very easy. Stop by the marketing office and ask for your personalized “Satisfied Resident” cards. Carry these cards in your wallet or purse and the next time that someone asks you about living here at Lakeview, you can hand them a card. Be sure to let

your referral know that they should bring the card to the community when they come in for a tour. When the card is presented to the marketing department we will know that you are the referral source and then we can credit you with the move in. You may also refer to any one of our other Spectrum properties and you will receive a rent credit of $500 when your referral moves into that community.
