The club will be taking their annual ride-out around the Ards Peninsula on Sunday 2 March and are encouraging other motorcyclists to take part to help raise funds for NSPCC Northern Ireland. Brian Lyness from Downriders Mcc, along with the help from all the club members, is organising the event and wants to get as many people involved as possible. He told The Chronicle: “Our route takes in the beautiful Ards peninsula coming through Newtownards then onto Bangor. We would love to see the people of Bangor coming out to support us and cheer us on, so I would encourage anyone coming into the town at around 2:30/3:00pm to stop and see us as we ride down Main Street and High Street. Then we will be off to the Donaghadee Community Centre for complimentary refreshments – where everyone is welcome. “The ride is open to everyone, including learner riders, and we have marshalls to look after all that come along. Last year we had over 200 participants take part, raising £1250. The ride-out costs just £5 per bike setting off at 1pm from Donaghadee Bus Station. "We are all looking forward to this annual event, which is growing steadily every year, and I must give a big thank you to the other motorcycle clubs that come to support us each year and to our sponsors Debutdrive of Newtownards. I also want to welcome individual riders to come down on the day and have a chat and a cuppa.” The NSPCC teams in Northern Ireland provide a range of therapeutic services to children and families through their service centres and ChildLine, the NSPCC’s free 24 hour helpline for children and young people in need of help. The teams also provide the young Witness for children and young people who are under 18 years old who have to attend court as witnesses and the innovative new ChildLine Schools Service, which delivers assemblies and workshops to primary school children about abuse, giving them the skills to protect themselves and showing them where to go to for help.
