aking place just once every ten years, the legendary Oberammergau Passion Play is a cultural and historic event unlike any other in the world. This bucketlist experience sees over 2,000 citizens of this small German town recreate Christ’s suffering, death and subsequent resurrection. Returning in 2020 for its 42nd performance, this event began in 1634 after villagers vowed a year earlier to recreate the life and death of Jesus once per decade if they were spared the Plague. This tradition has continued without interruption – despite major wars – ever since. It really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it can be yours next year. Prior to the Passion Play we will explore the neighbouring Austrian Tyrol. This is the land of storybook castles, dramatic landscapes and amazing stories. Hop aboard the Zillertal Steam Railway, admire Austria’s old-town streets and gilded architecture, and discover sites where ‘The Sound of Music’ was filmed. This part of the world was also home to Mozart, so lovers of the arts will be in great company.
Itinerary Day 1

Day 2 Our first morning sees us
embark upon an excursion aboard the historic Zillertal Steam Railway, where we will enjoy a chilled glass of schnapps in the shadow of the Hintertux Glacier. A thrilling cable car ride takes us to a mountainside restaurant for lunch before we return to our hotel. Inc. Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner.
Day 3 You can choose from two
themed excursions in vibrant Salzburg today – Mozart for the classical music lovers among us or ‘The Sound of Music’. Both trips will include visits to the castle and cathedral.
Oberammergau
Day 4 We begin with a visit to
the Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, including a guided tour of the old town and a stop at Emperor Maximillian I’s ‘Golden Roof’. This afternoon, we pay a visit to Tratzberg Castle. Inc. Meals: Breakfast & dinner.
Day 5 We bid farewell to Austria as
we transfer to Oberammergau in Germany. In the afternoon we settle down for the epic once-in-a-decade performance of the famous Passion Play, which includes dinner in the interval. Inc. Meals: Breakfast & dinner.
Day 6 After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and transfer to the airport for our return flight back home to London. Inc. Meals: Breakfast.
