WELCOME It has been an extraordinary year for everyone. The way that we live, work and learn has changed completely and many of us have faced new challenges – including the young people that are speaking tonight. They have each taken part in Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! – a programme which reaches over 20,000 young people a year. They have had a full day of training in communicaon skills and public speaking and have gone on to win either a Regional Final or Digital Final and earn their place here tonight. Every speaker has an important and inspiring message to share with us, and we are delighted to be able to host them at this virtual event.

A message from Sir Jack Petchey CBE

A message from Fiona Wilkinson

Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! helps young people find their voice and gives them the skills and confidence to make a real difference in the world. I feel inspired by each and every one of them. Public speaking is a skill you can use anywhere, whether in a classroom, an interview or in the workplace. I am so proud of all our finalists speaking tonight and of how far you have come. Good luck, and don’t forget, if you think you can, you can!

At Speakers Trust we believe that speaking up is the first step to changing the world. Each of the young people speaking tonight has an important message to share with us. Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! has given them the ability and opportunity to share this message - and it has given us the opportunity to be part of the change that they want to make. I look forward to sharing this experience with all of you, and to celebrang all of the voices that have been amplified through Jack Petchey’s “Speak Out” Challenge! this year.

The Jack Petchey Foundaon was set up by Sir Jack Petchey CBE to inspire and celebrate young people. To date we have invested over £133 million in programmes to benefit young people aged 11-25 across London and Essex. We recognise over 12,000 young people for their achievements each year through our Achievement Awards Scheme! This year, to celebrate our 21st Birthday we’ve been running extra programmes including compeons, 21st Birthday grants and new awards to recognise young people who have gone above and beyond to help others during the pandemic. All the young people we work with, including the Jack Petchey “Speak Out” Challenge! Finalists here tonight, show that when you recognise young people’s achievements and provide them with opportunies, they go on to reach even greater heights. Read our Shaping our Future report and hear from our young people here.

Speakers Trust and the Jack Petchey Foundaon share a vision for every young person to be able to speak and be heard and to believe in themselves. Speakers Trust exists to unlock potenal through the power of communicaon. Our vision is for every young person to be able to speak confidently and be heard. We work in partnership with the Jack Petchey Foundaon to enable over 20,000 young people a year to share their posive message with their peers and community. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us how important connecon and communicaon are in the world – we can deliver workshops to all schools live or remotely – click here for more informaon.
