Spring/Summer 2020

Forward Together

As we conclude with the holidays and move into warmer and sunnier days, and ultimately a new decade, our thoughts turn towards “pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training” and outdoor activities. If you are like me, you want to shed some excess pounds from the holiday season, and are itching to get back into a great exercise routine. We have a lot of great programs and activities to help you reach your 2020 goals. Starting in May, we’ll be rolling out our brand new “Summer Concert Series”. This 3-part event will also be happening in May, June, and August at Hoosier Grove Park. We’re excited to bring something to the patrons that hasn’t been done yet. In this series, patrons will get the chance to hear live music on stage while also partaking in tasty food truck offerings and some craft brewery selections. Park Pride Day, our annual community-wide park clean-up initiative, turns 10 years old in 2020. We’re hoping to add to the huge popularity and success from 2019 with a big blowout to celebrate 10 successful years of partnership with the community. Last, but certainly not least, our annual Streamwood Stride 5K/10K/Kiddie Run is back. Yours truly has become a master pancake and sausage chef at the post-race breakfast over the years. What better way to enjoy a quality breakfast than by running through the streets of Streamwood. So please come and say hello. I’ll be the guy holding the spatula. Please look at our seasonal program guides to check out our up-and-coming offerings. Several specials will also be going on, so please check out our website at www.StreamwoodParks.org to look at specials that interest you. I look forward to taking in the new seasons, a new year, and starting a new decade with you. I am grateful to be able to move “Forward Together” with you all in 2020.

Sincerely,

PARKDISTRICTBOARD

Park District Board President

The Streamwood Park District Board meets monthly at 7p at the Hoosier Grove Barn. All meetings are open to the public. Meeting notices are posted online, and within all Streamwood Park District facilities. We would love to see you there. Developmental (3rd & 4th Grade Boys)

basketball League The Streamwood Park District is combining with the Hoffman Estates Park District to offer a Summer Basketball League. Games will be held at both Park Place Family Recreation Center and the Hoffman Estates Park District. The goal of the program is to help each participant experience success as they develop their skills and abilities. An emphasis is placed not only on the basic skills of basketball, but also upon the development of important character qualities such as sportsmanship and teamwork. The Developmental, Junior, and Senior divisions will have one (1) practice per week, and games will be played on Saturdays. Practices will be based on the availability of the volunteer coaches.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: JUNE 13

Learning continues, however now set plays both on offense and defense are introduced. The game gets a bit quicker as fast breaks are allowed and fouls/travels are called by the referees. Still we are looking for the kids to have fun and to improve their game throughout the year. If a child is having trouble dribbling with their weak hand that will be the focus for them before the end of the year to build that skill and confidence. 220306-01

Junior (5th & 6th Grade Boys) Game speed continues to pick up and the plays / defenses increase in complexity. Fast breaks are frequent and players will be challenged to pick up quickly and react to the play more effectively. Fundamentals are built upon as well, however the participant should be practicing basic skills (dribbling, cross overs, shooting, layups, free throws, defensive position) on their own so as to build their skills within practice. 220306-02

Thank you for your patience and understanding when these situations arise. Waivers The Streamwood Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Streamwood Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for programs/activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate. Facilities All facility participants are expected to follow the rules of the facilities. Specialty areas of the facilities (example: fitness center and pools) have posted signs stating special rules specific to that area. Disregard or abuse of facility rules may result in removal by staff or police from the facility for a designated length of time or permanently. Observers Observers of programs are also expected to behave appropriately. Parents, friends, and any observers are held to the same standards of behavior as participants. If inappropriate behavior of a program observer is reported to or observed by a staff person, the observer will be asked to leave by the staff or police, if necessary. Appeals Any participant who is suspended or terminated from program participation shall have the right to appeal to the Executive Director within fourteen days of any notice of suspension or termination. The Executive Director shall thereupon schedule a meeting concerning such appeal, and the appellant shall be entitled to present his or her version of the facts at such meeting. Within five days after such meetings, the Executive Director shall notify the appellant in writing that the suspension or termination has been affirmed, modified, or reversed. The Executive Director shall notify the Board of Park Commissioners of the meeting and the decision. It is a vision of the Streamwood Park District to provide safe and wholesome programs in well-maintained facilities for our residents and guests. Rules must be followed and policies such as this must be established to protect this vision for all involved. Our goal is not to remove patrons from programs or facilities, but to work together with participants and/or parents/guardians to the best of our ability to correct or deal with a problem. The Streamwood Park District asks for your cooperation in behaving appropriately and also teaching your children the importance of appropriate behavior and following rules. adopted 11/09/00; revised/reviewed 06/20/08; 07/10/12
