SC Chamber of Commerce to Host Upstate Grassroots Meeting and Membership Reception The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the 2013 Regional Grassroots Meetings, the first step in creating the business community’s legislative agenda. This year’s Upstate Grassroots Meeting will be held Thursday, August 15 at 3:30 p.m. at the BMW Zentrum. Regional Grassroots Meetings allow members of the South Carolina Chamber and local chambers of commerce the opportunity to review the 2013 legislative session and discuss legislative priorities for the coming year. The Upstate Membership Reception (5:00-7:00 p.m.) will be held immediately following the Grassroots Meeting. A free event designed to honor members of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the Upstate Membership Reception enables South Carolina Chamber members to meet and network with fellow business leaders and elected officials. In addition to the governor and local legislative delegations, U.S. senators and congressional representatives, constitutional officers and key staff members have been invited. South Carolina Chamber officers and board members will be there to say thank you to the members. The Upstate Membership & Legislative Reception will include members from Abbeville, Anderson, Cherokee, Chester, Greenville, Greenwood, Laurens, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg, Union and York counties. Tyger River Foundation Sees Future Impact of Anderson Mill Bridge Working in concert with the Department of Transportation, the Tyger River Foundation has been instrumental in working to make the new Anderson Mill Bridge as aesthetically-pleasing as it is safe. The Department of Transportation initiated a project to build a new bridge at Anderson Mill, relocating it upstream to resolve issues with a sharp curve in the road and the intersection. The Tyger River Foundation seized the opportunity to preserve the existing bridge as a pedestrian overlook for the future Anderson Mill Park and enhance the facade of the new bridge to blend into the natural beauty of the surrounding area. Using the award-winning design of the U.S. Highway 76 Bridge over the scenic Chattooga River, the new Anderson Mill Bridge will feature guard rails made out of timber and a facade that resembles natural stonework. The existing bridge will be transformed into a pedestrian walkway, preserving its original stone footings which once held a covered bridge that crossed the river. The project is expected to get underway this year with scheduled completion in 2014. Spartanburg Area Transportation Study (SPATS) graciously awarded the Tyger River Foundation $96,800 as an enhancement grant for the project. The Tyger River Foundation is seeking community support to raise the final $24,200 and will recognize all donors giving $1,000 or more towards the Bridge Enhancement Project with their name on a placard to be placed on property at Anderson Mill Historic Landmark. The Department of Transportation Bridge Replacement Project presents an excellent opportunity to preserve the viewscape at Anderson Mill and prepare for the future Anderson Mill Park. For additional information or to make a contribution, visit their website (www.tygerriver.org) or contact them at 864-574-6336 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
