CHAMBER FOCUS Career guidance opportunities

On January 9th the WORC (Workforce Opportunities Resource Council) Practitioners Group conducted a tour of the Cooper Standard Automotive facility. The tour, led by Warren Snead, was designed to help career and guidance counselor professionals understand opportunities in today's workforce. This was the inaugural tour for the group with many more planned. This group represents education, industrial and government members to accomplish alignment for an engaged and qualified workforce. The next tour will be RR Donnelley in the coming weeks. In attendance: Sue Schneider, David Cordeau, Ben Davis, LaTokia Trigg, Cherie Pressley, Foster Chapman, Beverly Deal, William Richardson, Harvey Daily, Lisa Carlton, Tony Farr, Jason Hill, Warren Snead and Joy Owens.

2013 Visitors Guide released The Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB) held a release party for the new edition of The Official Spartanburg Visitors Guide 2013 at Zarza Eclectic Cuisine in Spartanburg on Thursday, January 10th. Travelers seeking revolutionary vacation ideas have a new resource available to them ‒ the 2013 edition of the Spartanburg Visitors Guide. Produced by the Spartanburg Convention and Visitors Bureau (SCVB), the official Spartanburg Visitors Guide features more than 120 pages of shopping, dining, accommodations, and attractions in Spartanburg County.

Annual Meeting

Local leaders provide input for 2013 Economic Forecast On Thursday, January 10th, focus groups representing 12 key sectors of the economic structure met at the Chamber. The groups reviewed the previous year and provided insightful perspectives on what is driving certain sectors and what we can expect going forward. The compiled results will be shared with the business community at the 2013 Economic Forecast Breakfast on February 8, 2013.

Summit for Youth and Young Adult Economic Opportunity Join the United Way of the Piedmont and City of Spartanburg on January 21st after the MLK Jr. Day of Service Kick-Off at CC Woodson Community Center for a summit on Youth and Young Adult Economic Opportunity in Spartanburg. In addition, I’ve always been a social, outgoing person. Spartanburg Young Professionals has been a great opportunity to connect, and in many cases, reconnect with like-minded individuals in the Spartanburg area.
