Hungarian-born photographer Kati Horna was one of few women to document the frontlines of war, and her images of the Spanish Civil War appeared in numerous anarchist publications. Following Franco’s victory, Horna and her husband, Spanish artist José Horna, fled to Mexico where she began a lifelong engagement with the Mexican illustrated press. Her work focused on landmarks of modern Mexican architecture and daring portraits of artists and cultural figures of the time. Told and Untold: The Photo Stories of Kati Horna in the Illustrated Press features her photographs alongside the magazines that put them in circulation, and her never-before-seen materials from the Spanish Civil War.
