WE LOVE… TIENE UNAS CUANTAS SORPRESAS BAJO LA MANGA. UNA DE LAS IMPORTANTES ES LA RESIDENCIA DE INNERVISIONS, QUIEN AÚNA VARIAS DE LAS FUERZAS DEL HOUSE PARA CREAR UN SONIDO DISTINTIVO. UNA DE ESAS FUERZAS ES DIXON, QUIEN HABLÓ CON SPACE MAGAZINE Y NOS PREPARA PARA… NO SABEMOS TODAVÍA EL QUÉ!
Innervisions at We Love… it’s definitely going to be unexpected. “There is no master plan,” says Dixon, who is the driving force behind the Berlin music platform and who recently became a father for the first time. “I think each one of us is going to have a slot but I will also play back to back with Âme”. This of course means giving away a little of his freedom, a price he accepts reluctantly. “It’s hard for a German who likes to be in control,” he admits. As probably most DJs, Dixon likes to follow his own vision of the night. However, he goes on to add: “I like to play with DJs like Kristian from Âme because I connect with them, we share the same vision despite having different perspectives. So if you have a friend that you trust and like to play with, it can be refreshing.” Dixon reveals that although he and the rest of Innervisions has a new residency at Space, he thinks it’s a bit strange calling his next four performances at We Love… with duo Âme and Henrik Schwarz, just that. “I still have problems calling anything, that’s not at least once a week, a residency.” This comes after the Innervisions crew played at what many declared as one of the finest nights of summer last year – Resident Advisor was one example who said they “come alive in a unique way when playing altogether”. Innervisions bought its music to Space Ibiza five times during the last years. At first glance, being a resident might be difficult– making your crowd want to return to the same club every weekend. However it’s actually Dixon’s “dream situation.” “There’s a rationale behind it”, he tells us. “You have freedom to do whatever you want because you get to know the crowd and you know what they want. And since the crowd comes back looking for something they already know, they are more relaxed” he adds. In turn, this encourages extra risk taking. “It’s more fulfilling for me trying something different and maybe seeing the crowd not like it - but seeing ten people go crazy over it, purely because they never expected to hear anything like that.” And so this is where the DJ does their job: they create the unexpected – and this is indeed what Innervisions is trying to deliver. Their music label is a “playground” mirroring its members’ own artistic evolution. “We have a lot of interests that don’t belong to the club scene strictly speaking and we are trying to include those in the platform. For example, we started publishing books and even have a fashion label.” In the end, when we ask him for more details and what more we can reveal to our readers, he says: “It’s a party and it’s going to be fun. As simple as that.” There is a master plan after all.
Innervisions en We Love... va a ser sin duda inesperado. “No hay plan maestro”, cuenta Dixon, la fuerza impulsora detrás de esta plataforma musical de Berlín, quien ha sido padre por primera vez hace unos pocos meses. “Me parece que cada uno de nosotros tendrá un horario concreto”. También hará un back to back con Âme. Por supuesto, esto significa entregar un poco de su libertad, un precio que él acepta a regañadientes. “Es difícil para un alemán al que le gusta tener el control”, admite. Como probablemente la mayoría de los DJs, a Dixon le gusta seguir su propia visión de la noche. Sin embargo, finalmente explica: “Me gusta pinchar con DJs como Kristian de Âme, porque conecto con ellos, compartimos la misma visión a pesar de hacerlo desde diferentes perspectivas. Con un amigo en quien confías puede ser refrescante.” Dixon revela que aunque él y el resto de Innervisions (el dúo Âme y Henrik Schwarz ) tienen una residencia este verano en Space, piensa que es un poco extraño llamar así a sus próximas actuaciones en We Love... “Todavía tengo problemas para llamar residencia a cualquier cosa que no sea por lo menos una vez por semana”, admite. La residencia en Space llega después de que Innervisions pinchara en lo que para muchos fue una de las mejores noches del verano pasado. Un ejemplo es el de la web especializada Resident Advisor: “Los de Innervisions cobran vida de una manera única cuando pinchan juntos”. Innervisions ha traído su música a Space Ibiza en cinco ocasiones en los últimos años. A primera vista, ser un residente puede ser difícil: dejar al público con ganas de volver al mismo club cada fin de semana. Sin embargo, es la situación que Dixon considera “ideal.” “Hay una razón detrás de esto”, cuenta, “tienes libertad para hacer lo que quieras, conoces al público y sabes lo que desean”. Y puesto que la multitud retorna en busca de algo que ya conocen, “están más relajados”, añade. A su vez, fomenta tomar riesgos extra: “Es más gratificante para mí probar algo diferente y que tal vez no guste a la mayoría - pero que el tema vuelva locas a diez personas simplemente porque no esperaban oír nada por el estilo.” Y aquí es donde el DJ hace su trabajo: crea lo inesperado. Precisamente lo que Innervisions está tratando de lograr. Su sello discográfico es un “patio de recreo” reflejo de la evolución artística de sus miembros. “Tenemos una gran cantidad de intereses que no pertenecen a la escena clubber en sentido estricto, y estamos tratando de incluirlos. Por ejemplo, hemos publicado libros y diseñado ropa”. Al final, cuando se le pregunta sobre los detalles de su residencia dice: “Es una fiesta y va a ser divertida. Tan simple como eso.” Al final va a resultar que sí hay un plan maestro.
