Business Supporter Opportunities 2020-2022
Welcome Who are we and why do we exist? We are the South West Coast Path Association, the charity that cares for the Path. For over 40 years we have stood up for England’s longest National Trail. We are committed to protecting this amazing natural corridor for people’s well-being, for the environment and to help the region’s economy flourish.
For people, for planet, for life.
Introducing Every Mile Matters The South West Coast Path (SWCP) provides health-giving happiness to millions of people every year, it connects hundreds of coastal communities, helps the region’s economy thrive and is one of the most unique wildlife corridors in the world. And in the midst of a global health crisis, the SWCP is even providing a place of solitary enjoyment to thousands of people across the region. Despite millions of people relying on access to the Coast Path, less than 1% of those who use it choose to support it. The Path’s very existence is under serious threat. Increasingly severe storms, rising sea levels, coastal erosion and increased footfall are just some of the challenges we’re facing when it comes to looking after the Path. And the costs of doing so, continue to soar. Over the past five years, we’ve had to invest an extra £2 million to keep the Path in good condition, and yet the Path remains vulnerable. Climate change is already having visible effects on the world and if we don’t act now, untold damage to our region’s coastline is a future we’re all walking towards. As recovery gets underway after the storms, which battered our beloved coastline during winter 2019-2020, we invite the south west business community to back our new flagship campaign Every Mile Matters. Please join us if you share our belief that every one of the 630 miles that make up our region’s iconic National Trail is important and worth protecting.

Every Mile Matters is a campaign calling for people to act now to protect the South West Coast Path, a much-loved natural resource at the heart of our community. With your help, we want to increase the Path’s resilience against an onslaught of extreme weather brought on by climate change. We want to help the south west business community recover from the devastating effects coronavirus outbreak had on the region’s tourism. We want to conserve the Trail’s rich biodiversity, distinct cultural heritage and demonstrate the real, positive impact it has on people’s health and wellbeing. Our vision is to see the South West Coast Path not only survive, but thrive – benefiting everyone in society regardless of how old they are, where they come from or what their background is. But we can’t do it alone.
