COUNCIL bosses are looking at ways to secure public ownership of Dulwich Hamlet FC’s ground amid fears they face eviction by their owner at the end of the season.
In extraordinary developments this week, the club claimed it was slapped with a backdated bill of £121,000 in rent, served notice on its licence to play at the ground, and banned from using its own name
and initials in a trademark dispute with developer Meadow Residential LLP. Southwark Council leader Peter John and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan have sent a joint letter to Meadow, saying the local authority is keen to buy the freehold to the Champion Hill site at market rate. As the News went to press, Meadow said it would be handing over the trademark to the supporters’ club and submitted proposals to try to find a way to break the deadlock. See page 8
