By RICKI FULLERToday there are a plethora of reasons for people to become angry. Simply perusing the various topics of ‘overcoming’ that we have discussed since January, it appears anger is pretty likely to show up. This is particularly true when dealing with Strongholds, Trauma, Shame, Failure, Fear, and etcetera.
Being honest with ourselves we can say that we really do not want to be bothered by having to overcome anything because, to us, life should be easy through which to navigate, PERIOD! Yes, anger could possibly arise as a result of inner emotions/perceptions being generated within us regarding the actions of people whom we most trust/respect.
Overcoming anything can be troubling, and thereby can cause anger in those who may feel an overwhelming sense of being unjustly treated/considered. Once people feel such, they tend to seek ways and means to escape or alleviate the pain/burden of injustice. A prime example of such for us can be found in Luke 15:28-31 wherein the older brother became angry with his father for throwing a party for his younger brother. As you review this, you may see the emotion of jealousy pop up before his anger became evident: “The older brother was angry and wouldn’t go in. His father came out and begged him, but he replied, ‘All these years I’ve slaved for you and never once refused to do a single thing you told me to. And in all that time you never gave me even one young goat for a feast with my friends. Yet when this son of yours comes back after squandering your money on prostitutes, you celebrate by killing the fattened calf!’ “His father said to him, ‘Look, dear son, you have always stayed by me, and everything I have is yours.”
In essence the older son demonstrated to his father, by his attitude and his actions that he needed to stop it all right then! Check it out, everyone knew what was going on except for him. His dad had not consulted him, nor included him in that decision. Had his father lost his mind and forgotten about how that younger son had disrespected him when he took his inheritance, and left home living in a lush/wasteful manner?
At times, would you say that is the way we are with our parents, family, co-workers, and even with GOD? Do we become jealous of others when they are rewarded and we feel unjustly excluded? Do we believe we’ve been the ones who have been respectfully serving/working, and the one to whom we have been loyal turns to bless someone who has shown selfishness and disrespect? Do we feel violated, thereby causing us to become angry/indignant?
And, do we say with our actions, Stop All of This only to be told/reminded -dear child everything I have is yours?
Thank You, Lord for helping us see You and ourselves from Your omniscient perspective! Thank You for guiding us to not give in to anger!
