“I’m looking forward to having a youth group that is going to be not only a fun thing to do, but it will develop leadership skills and will help grow faith,” Valente said. “This year, my goal is to build the Squires up.” Kylle Ayers, a member of Isabella Council 15 for the past year, has been working with Valente to organize the program, and he’s excited to see the plans finally coming to fruition. “It gives an opportunity for young men to have involvement in a community and faith-based program with other young men, male role models, and in many cases, their fathers or grandfathers,” Ayers said. Dennis Kelly, the grand knight of Isabella Council 15, has also been helping Valente and Ayers get the pro-

gram started. Kelly said a lot of the Knights are getting older and the youth organization is a great opportunity to bring in some potential young members. “We went to a state convention and they mentioned the Squires,” Kelly said. “I’ve worked with the youth for years, so I thought this is a good idea.” Kelly said he has worked with Anthony DeCaprio, the head of the Columbian Squires organization in Connecticut, who helped with the process of starting a circle. Kelly said DeCaprio offered a lot of advice and ideas for the program. “It’s a growing organization,” Kelly said. “I think in our society there aren’t a lot of opportunities for this.” More information about the organization is available at the Southington K of C website, http://kofcsouthington.glimmerpoint.net.
