Parks and Recreation Briefs

The Southington Parks and Recreation Department is located in the town hall at 75 Main St., in the basement. To make reservations, register or for more information, call the office at (860) 2766219. Arts and crafts

The Southington Parks and Recreation Department will offer arts and crafts

classes this summer for children with special needs, ages 5 to 15. The program is for Southington residents only. All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout each class. Program will take place in the lower level program room at the Southington Public Library on Friday afternoons, Aug. 3, 10, 17, and 24, from 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. for ages 5-9 and 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. for ages 10-15. Both classes will be held on Thursday evenings, Sept. 6, 13, 20, 27, Oct. 4, 11, 18, and 25, at The Summit at Plantsville, 261 Summit St. Instructor is Kevin Medeiros. “Puppy Kindergarten” classes for dogs 3 to 5 months old will run from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. “Basic Dog Obedience” classes for dogs older than 5 months will run from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. All dogs must have up-to-date vaccinations in order to participate. Trips offered The Southington Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the following bus trips: Saratoga Race Course, Saturday, Aug. 4; Nantucket, Saturday, Aug. 18; Boston Red Sox vs. Toronto Blue Jays (at Boston), Sunday, Sept. 9 A complete list of 2012 bus trips with details and fees is available on the Parks and Recreation Department’s webpage at www.southington.org.

Wayton tennis tournament The remainder of the 2012 Wayton Open Tennis Tournament will be held July 27 to 29 at Southington High School. Men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles and women’s doubles will be available divisions. This tournament is open to the public and residents of all areas. Proceeds benefit The Wayton Open Scholarship Fund.
