Letters to the Editor

Thankful for playscape

To the editor: We wish to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who came to our side in our time of need. When our lives took a turn and we were relying on our faith and hoping that our prayers would be heard, we could never have imagined that our prayers would be answered with such abundance. The Southington community — all of the wonderful people and organizations — helped make such a difference in the lives of my three little boys and our family. We are blessed to have had so many amazing people come into our lives. No words can express how much we appreciate your kindness, generosity and support through these very difficult times. We would like to send special thanks to Rachel Wache,

Library book collection successful To the editor: The Southington High School Library Improvement and Beautification (LIB) Committee would like to thank all of those who donated books to our cause. We were able to collect several thousand books at the book drive on Dec. 4. While speaking with those who donated books it was quite apparent how precious your books were to you. We will ensure that these books will be put to good use for our young residents. The books will be a great addition to the SHS library as we move forward with the project. In addition, we were able to distribute 50 to 100 age-appropriate books to each Southington elementary and middle school to add to their library collection. The committee would also like to thank The Southington Citizen for covering the SHS library project and book drive. Your assistance made

our book drive a huge success as we begin the journey to upgrade the library. We will continue to seek the support of Southington residents and business owners as the next phase begins. Again, thank you very much and if you would like to donate books to the SHS Library, please contact John Moise, at (860) 628-5083, or Bonnie Sica, at (860) 621-9553. John Moise and Dina DeGumbia Southington John Moise and Dina DeGumbia are co-chairpersons SHS LIB Committee.

Supporting our troops

We ask the citizens of Southington to join us in welcoming the return home of the 90 members of the Southington Armory National Guard group who were deployed in Afghanistan for the past year. These brave men and women unselfishly left their families and jobs, giving up the comforts of home, risking their lives, enduring the challenges of existing in a land and climate so foreign to our own. We thank them and their families for their great personal sacrifices and pray for their healthy and smooth transition back into life here in Connecticut. Some of them are without jobs. Others have returned with health and traumatic issues. We, of the American Legion Auxiliary, would like to provide each of our ninety returning troops a gift certificate for a holiday dinner they can purchase at our local grocery stores. The more we receive the larger the denomination of the gift certificates we can purchase for these families to enjoy together during the holidays. Your gift can be made payable to: American Legion Auxiliary, Kiltonic Unit 72 and mailed to Rachel L. Wache, President, American
