Eat Yourself Thin

Having lost 4 stone and 7lbs in less than a year, Lyn has found that not only does she look healthier but she feels it. It was this motivation that encouraged Lyn to become a Slimming World Consultant, launching her first group in Oxted on the 11th May 2013.

Lyn Turner of Slimming World is the Southern Voice’s recommendation for losing weight, due to her dedication and commitment to helping her group members achieve a slimmer, healthier new life.

Lyn is keen to support others who are desperate to find a programme that works, or simply want to lose a few pounds. According to Lyn, one of the great things about the Slimming World programme is that “there is no food that you can’t have. If you love food, this is the plan for you.”

Lyn Turner understands the stress and pressure of trying to lose weight. First, there is the realisation that you are overweight and that something needs changing for your health. Second, is the acceptance and decision to change your lifestyle and third, the programme itself.

For more information on how you can join Lyn’s group, please call 07803 712652 or email

“More than 30 million people in the UK are overweight.” Obesity is a serious issue for both adults and children alike, with almost all cases of obesity down to lifestyle choices of a bad diet and no exercise. Obese individuals are constantly putting their health at risk. Some dieting programmes are aimed merely at weight loss, with some aiming at a healthier lifestyle.

Finding a programme and sticking to it is often stressful for many dieters. Often, programmes fail or are given up on due to their restrictiveness. It was this restrictiveness that saw Lyn Turner giving up on all the programmes she had attempted over the years. Eventually, after losing her confidence and self-belief, she took the huge decision to undergo a gastric bypass, believing this could be the answer she was looking for. It wasn’t, and at the end of her tether, she decided to try a new programme; Slimming World. Losing 5.5lbs within her first week, Lyn realised this would be the diet to work, finding the friendly help and encouragement to be the key ingredient to her weight loss and focus.

Lyn has also achieved an award for accepting 60 new members to her group within the space of one month. Since the 11th of May, Lyn’s members have collectively lost more than 40 stone, a feat accomplished due to the hard work and the supportive and respectful environment.

There is no time more important than childhood; a time for developing the person, the mind and the individual as a whole, especially through education. The summer holidays are the ideal time for enrolling your children in a spot of extra tuition. Extra tuition can be invaluable, whether it’s a subject area that is of interest to them, an extra bit of help for an area they struggle with or preparation for the year ahead. It is also a great opportunity to keep them entertained before school restarts!

(ISTD) syllabus. The classical ballet classes are designed to help develop the physical skills, stamina, creative expression and musicality of the students. The Tap dance classes encourage the rhythmical development and precision of footwork within students and offers students the chance to explore their own creativity through improvisation. The Modern dance classes are fun and imaginative with lively music. Students develop their flexibility and strength and also their performance skills.

The school’s principle, Yvonne Atherton is both experienced and knowledge with many qualifications under her belt and is determined to ensure that each child enjoys learning dance in a fun, friendly and supportive environment.

Students also have the opportunity to perform in shows. The school also holds a choreographic competition with the winner performing their routine in April’s dance show. In addition to classes, there are also workshops every holiday.

The school encourages small class sizes, allowing each student to be treated as an individual. This individual tuition ensures that each child achieves their highest potential. It is this serious but fun environment that has seen the school achieve a 100% pass rate for examinations.

High Quality Child Care

Meet The Team

Sue’s Childcare utilise their extensive background and experience within the childcare industry to offer their childcare services for children of all ages. Whether it’s childcare within your own home or a crèche service at a wedding or function, Sue’s Childcare can help.

Sue Aidley has been working within the childcare industry since 2000 in a variety of roles that has enabled her to cultivate a wide range of skills while also supplying extensive knowledge and experience within the industry. Sue’s previous experience includes working as a nursery nurse, room leader and also a nursery manager.

Services Available Weddings and functions can often be problematic for childcare. With the adults otherwise engaged in the celebrations and the excitement of the event bringing out different behaviour in children, a reliable and responsible childcare provision can be invaluable for helping the event run smoothly. Sue Aidley of Sue’s Childcare understands that leaving your children in the care of strangers can make both you and the child feel uncomfortable. Sue and her staff aim to ease the situation by ensuring that the experience is as enjoyable as possible for all involved and especially the little ones!

Mavis Sprout is a registered child-minder and a qualified ‘early years’ teacher with over 40 years of experience. Both Sue and Mavis are fully CRB checked, fully qualified and Ofsted registered as home child carers. Any additional staff employed by Sue’s Childcare is found to be suitable for the position, up-to-date with first aid training, fully qualified and CRB checked.

Sarah Hamshere Sarah's current work alternates between abstract paintings, dancing figures and work exploring myths, fairytales and spirituality. Her work explores moods and feelings expressed through colour and texture. From childhood, Sarah has had a passion for making, drawing and painting and first exhibited work in the 1980s. She has worked in all kinds of media-papier mache, textiles, pastels, mixed media, glass bead making, mosaics using broken crockery and artists character teddy bears. She likes experimenting with new techniques and forms although she usually returns to painting and the explosions of colour that she loves. Trying out different techniques allows her to experiment with recycling in her work and she enjoys the playful aspect of working with mixed media. She has also worked on projects reworking furniture with her partner, Barbara Hawley, who works as a traditional upholsterer. She lives and exhibits in Sheffield and takes part each year in the Sheffield Open Up open studios weekends.
