Lake Martin Fishing Has Been Good Capt. David Hare

Southern Outdoor Magazine Columnist Lake Martin

Water Level 490.13 (Full Pool is 490.00) Water Clarity/ Clear Surface Temp 60-64 degrees Lake Martin April fishing has been as good as it gets with numerous trophy class stripers being boated on our guide trips including a 38,37 several 30 + and an amazing 41 lber ! Our crappie guided trips have and still are producing crappie up to and few over 2 lbs. With May being here now as far as striper fishing I think the first 21 days will be as good as April was not changing patterns a whole lot. The last 10 days or so in May normally will start to change over to an earlier bite in the shallow waters then as the sun warms up the water surface temp the fish will get a little deeper and most likely be schooled together around 30 ft. Alex City Guide Service of course will be using live shad but if that option is not open for you then go to the local bait shops around the lake and purchase some very small black salties and down line them. You will need to target humps and long deep points near main creek channels and along the river channel. Crappie should still be biting good during the day in

One place that seems to be a night time crappie favorite is the Elkahatchee Creek (Coven Abott) Bridge but you better go early to get a spot because it fills up with boats very early.
