CHURCH Pearl NEWS City First United Methodist Good Shepherd Lutheran Church

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will gather for worship on June 17, at Good Shepherd, 118 E. Mason St. Lena, IL, at 9:30 a.m. This is Fellowship Sunday. Our service will be at the Fellowship Hall. Have coffee and juice on your table while we read scripture and have conversation about the Word of God together. There will be Holy Communion, special music by Men’s Choir, and potluck luncheon after the service. Everyone is welcome. Our VBS Gospel Express All Aboard will be on Monday June 18 to Thursday June 21, in cooperation with Lena UMC and the Beloved Church. Supper starts at 5 p.m. at UMC. Come and Join us for crafts, games, snacks, music, Bible stories, and worship. On Wednesday June 20, at 8 a.m. the Piece Corps Quilters will work together to craft quilts for Lutheran World Relief. They are always looking for more people to help tie quilts and sew. No previous quilting experience is necessary. Come join the fun and make a difference in the world. On Wednesday June 20, from 5-8 p.m., Good Shepherd will be downtown Lena with free games for all ages. There will be basketball hoop, giant JENGA, hula hoops and more. Stop by and a have fun evening. Kent/Willow United Methodist Churches

Kent/Willow UMC Churches will worship together Sunday June 17, “Fathers Day” at 9 a.m. at Kent UMC. Jim and Judy Schubert were able to go on a “St. Judes” trip in May and received a tour of the hospital. This was a very “special” and interesting trip for them. They will be sharing some of the events and if you have never been there, you won’t want to miss this time and some pictures. They are very thankful to all who helped them to be able to go on this trip. You are invited to stay for the refreshments and fellowship that follows. Sunday School is at 10:30 a.m. studying from the Holy Bible, all are invited to stay for this time Kent UMC is located right in the town of Kent, IL. Church to host ‘A Night of Music’ Join us at Pearl City First United Methodist Church, 411 S. Main St, at 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, for “A Night of Music” brought to you by the Pearl City UMC Choir. The choir will be performing an Encore performance of the Cantata, “The Road to Calvary” along with some other special music. Join us for ice cream following the event. A free will offering will be taken that evening and will be used for church improvements.

38th Annual Aquin Open set for July 26 The 38th annual Aquin Open will be held Thursday, July 26 at the Freeport Club (former Freeport Country Club). There will be two shotgun starts, at 7:30 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. The Aquin Open is the longest-running, educational fund raising golf event in Northwest Illinois. For their greens fees golfers get 18

Miller Scholarship was established by Miller, a life long Stephenson County resident and ardent supporter of agriculture, natural resources and conservation. Miller, who died in 2007, left a legacy in the community for his support of a variety of programs and efforts, especially youth and conservation causes.
