Dancing Drum assemblies held at District 4 Steve Campbell of Dancing Drum provided interactive drumming assemblies at all of Addison School District 4’s elementary buildings last week. With the theme of world music, Campbell played songs and taught different rhythm patterns from countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and South America. All students had the opportunity to participate during the assembly playing drums, wood blocks, and maracas. Students were also encouraged to sing, clap, and chant with the beat. Upper grade students danced and lower grade students paraded as everyone learned and had fun. Each assembly concluded with teachers drumming out a rock and roll beat to represent music from the United States. More information about Dancing Drum is available at dancingdrum.com These 14 school assemblies were made possible by the Young Person’s Music Initiative Grant from the DuPage County Foundation. This is the second year of the multi-year grant, which is funded by the JCS Fund through the Foundation.
