STATESMEN VS FIGHTING OKRA We fight for the green and white at Delta State with two key team players. Despite some rowdy student objections, the official athletic mascot is the respected Statesmen. He represents the stature and strength of our 15 teams. The student-adopted mascot is the Fighting Okra, the most vicious of all vegetables. It was created by a band of students at Delta State and has since been strongly embraced.

STATESMEN OR OKRA Which will you become?

We would love to meet you this fall. Schedule your campus visit today.

JAQUAR NOTES QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “With our left tackle Dareaun and left guard Kendall Terry, we can run behind them with Alan. We also have a junior wide receiver, Keshaun, who has really showed out for us this past 7-on-7 and then Jesse Curry a senior. Both of them ran a 4.5 and are probably playing both sides of the ball. I think we are going to be a hard team to beat this year.” CAM BOWMAN, QUARTERBACK

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “We’re really focused on having a good year and making a deep run in the playoffs.” DANIEL BRISTOW, QUARTERBACK

3,205 Total career yards of offense by running back Alan Lamar

The Jaguars compete in a very difficult league but have the talent to make a push for the top spot in 2015. Quarterback Cam Bowman has been good for the Jags and is poised to be great this season. Defense lost some stars in 2014. Young players will have to fill big shoes.

MUSTANG NOTES

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON:

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “We have to be a family at all times because we are not the strongest, fastest or most talented, but if we are playing for one another and God then we’re on the right track.” CLAYTON KNIGHT, QUARTERBACK

“We are feeling really good about the upcoming season. We have great leadership on both sides of the ball. We also have some young guys that are going to help a lot. Everybody just has to be all in.” DAN ELLINGTON, QB

6,229 Total yards of offense in Dan Ellington’s career

The Mustangs continue to improve under head coach Alan Peacock. Quarterback Dan Ellington continues to cripple defenses with his dual threat capabilities. Leading receivers Jonathan Weeks and Kaleb Johnson both return for 2015.

DORE NOTES

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “I’m feeling great about the team and the work ethic that we are showing. We have a lot of experience on the team and a lot of leadership. I feel good about this year but we will just take things one game at a time.”

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “It’s great to be back at it officially. We haven’t stopped working since December 8th.” MYLES BRENNAN, QB

QUIN JONES, LB

12 Games in a row for the Dores in 2015. No breaks, no byes. Just football.

Eli Johnson will enter the 2015 season as the most experienced offensive lineman in the state. There will be a new QB under center for the Dores this season. However, Will Ard is no stranger to Friday night lights, he was a freshman starter before transferring to Lafayette last season. If there is a team in the North that can upset Noxubee County, this is it.

QUOTE OF THE SUMMER “I would say we are a much closer team this year. It’s all or nothing, there’s one thing on our mind and that’s a state championship. Our work ethic and hard work, since the beginning of spring and through summer, has gotten so much better. We will have more knowledge of what we are doing since it’ll be the second year in the system for the team, and I just think everyone on the team see’s how we have come together through all the pain and sweat. Going into the season we can count on each other more in the hard times, and not only to just get to Mississippi College but win it, and lately a good quote we’ve been saying is “Why not us” why can’t we be the top dawg like everyone expects Prep to be.” MRA QB HAYDEN DAVIS

GOLDEN EAGLES

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “First day was good. There was a lot of energy and our guys were moving around but that’s every first day. Now, it’s how we build on it, sustain it and keep it that way. Everyone needs to raise their level every single day. If we were already where we needed to be then we wouldn’t even practice. We are figuring out who is going to play, who is going to contribute, and who is going to be taking the field the first week against Mississippi State.” TODD MONKEN

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “I’m excited for the challenge of the year. I think SEC West will be as competitive as ever and still really the best division in all of college football and the most competitive division of all of college football. But that’s what we love, and those are the challenges we love. As a competitor, that’s the league you want to be in every single day, every single week. On Saturdays, you roll out on that field knowing you’re playing one of the best teams in the country every single Saturday is a great thing to be a part of. Thank you.” DAN MULLEN

QUOTE ON 2015 SEASON: “Our theme this year is take a stand, and the first thing we’re talking about today is being teachable. That goes for our coaches as well as for our young men, having teachable spirits that we recognize that each is a reflection of the others in that room. That goes for coaches, players, managers, and hopefully we’ll be very engaging and cutting edge as coaches. Hopefully our young men will grow together.” HUGH FREEZE
