Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman Mayor, South East District Grassroots Adviser to East Coast GRC GROs and MP for East Coast GRC

Every year, we mark National Day with a grand National Day Parade. This year was no diǏerent. At the community level, it was very heartwarming to see many celebrations taking place to mark our nation’s 52nd Birthday recently. Through everything from National Day dinners to Observance ceremonies, we celebrated the key institutions that have made Singapore succeed over the last 52 years — and one of these is ourˎmultiracialism. Much has been said about how important it is for us to maintain our racial and religious harmony — that it will always be a work in progress and that we must never take our social cohesion for granted. This is even more critical as we are faced with the challenges of self-radicalisation, religious extremism and terrorism. We must remain vigilant and not allow any incidents to divide us. I am glad that the South East CDC continues to reach out to our corporate, community and government agency partners as we develop and implement programmes that strengthen our inter-racial and inter-faith relationships. We also continue to build bridges and provide opportunities for our residents and partners to support the vulnerable in our community through programmes like the 3M Step Up Challenge. We are happy
