Residence Halls Living in the residence halls contributes to your overall education. Research demonstrates that students who live on campus do better academically and rate their college experience as more satisfying. Southeast’s campus includes 13 residence halls, whether you are interested in community-style or suite-style housing. For more information, visit www.semo.edu/housing. After admission to the University, complete the Contract for University Housing online via the process outlined in your admission materials. A $150 housing deposit is required. Enrollment at Southeast continues to grow. As a result, the residence halls at Southeast may reach their full capacity by July 1. The recommended housing contract completion date is December 1. Due to space limitations, submitting a housing contract by this date does not guarantee that students will be placed in their choice of housing.
Living on campus is an important part of the college experience. Southeast requires that all full-time students live on campus for two years (four semesters) unless they meet one of the following criteria: ✔ Living with parent(s) or legal guardian(s) and commuting from their residence within a reasonable distance (50 miles) of Cape Girardeau ✔ At least 21 years of age by the beginning of the semester for which they are enrolled ✔ Military veteran ✔ Completed 57 credit hours accepted by the University toward earning a degree from Southeast. The Jane Stephens Honors Program offers opportunities tailored to the aspirations and motivations of students with intellectual and creative abilities, underscoring Southeast’s commitment to leadership. Honors credit may be earned by taking honors courses in the University curriculum or by completing honors contracts for courses taught by honors faculty. The honors community in Merick Hall allows contact and support from other honors students, combined with the diversity of living in a large residence hall. Residence Life Leadership Scholarship Value: $1,000 to be applied to residence hall fees. This award may be combined with ONE of the following scholarships: a $4,000 President’s Scholarship, a $2,000 University Scholarship, or the Midwest Achievement Award. Eligibility: This scholarship is awarded to beginning freshmen who meet the following criteria. 1. Will reside in a University residence hall AND 2. 18 composite ACT or 860 SAT (CR+M) AND 3. 3.0 cumulative high school GPA AND 4. Complete the optional scholarship questions as part of the online application for admission to demonstrate a record of student involvement. Applicants involved in multiple school or community activities for at least three years of high school will be considered for this award. The Residence Life Leadership Scholarship is automatically awarded to students who provide documentation of one of the following recognitions: Boys’ State, Girls’ State, HOBY, Missouri Renaissance program participant, Missouri A+ high school graduate, Eagle Scout, or the Girl Scout Gold Award. Renewal: The Residence Life Leadership Scholarship is renewable each year up to a maximum of four consecutive academic years, providing the student is living in the South east residence halls, is enrolled full time (fall and spring) and completes 24 Southeast credit hours per academic year with a 3.25 cumulative GPA in courses taken at Southeast.

Midwest Achievement Award (MAA) (Out of State) MAA Value: $3,554.40 (approximate) The scholarship value is the difference between out-of-state incidental fees and 130 percent of in-state incidental fees (see “Average Annual Cost of Attendance” chart on page 6 for details). The Midwest Achievement Award is renewable each year for a maximum of three consecutive academic years, 128 credit hours (including transfer), or completion of course work for a bachelor’s degree, whichever occurs first, providing students maintain a Southeast cumulative 2.75 GPA and complete a minimum of 24 Southeast credit hours per academic year (may include Southeast summer hours). 3. Scholarship reinstatement is not available for students who do not meet the renewal criteria.

Affordability Southeast operates a textbook rental program in which most students pay less than $260 per year for textbooks, compared to more than $1,000 per year at other colleges and universities. That is a savings of about $3,000 over four years! Southeast is affordable within the Midwest and nationally.
