Industry volunteers serve on the editorial advisory committee for Orlando Medical News

T

he adage, ‘it takes a village to raise a child,’ takes on a special meaning concerning Orlando’s annual In Charge compendium of Central Florida’s healthcare leaders. Eight industry volunteers that comprise the Orlando Medical News’ Editorial Advisory Committee were instrumental in shaping this year’s edition. In addition to her role at the local medical society, Sami Bay provides sales and marketing support for the Avancen MOD Corporation, the manufacturer and distributor of Medication on Demand (MOD®), a PCA for the bedside delivery of oral pain medications. Prior to moving to Volusia County, Bay led the U.S. sales promotions team for the Tupperware Corporation. The University of Cincinnati alum, who also studied at The Ohio State University, serves as vice president of membership for the Volusia/Flagler chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. She’s a member of her son’s School Advisory Board (SAC) and the Halifax Rowing Association. An RN with 28 years of experience, Michele Borton worked at Orlando Health for 17 years as an OR nurse, managed daily operations and was assistant nurse manager of surgery. For the last eight years, she has directed sales and marketing activity for Vascular Vein Center, a specialty practice with six locations in Central Florida. Before joining the Florida State University College of Medicine, Michael Muszynski, MD, a graduate of The Ohio State University medical school, served as co-chair of the education and research committee of the Association of Florida’s Children’s Hospitals and the evaluation methods task force chairman of the national Association of Pediatric Program Directors. An academic pediatric infectious diseases specialist since 1983, he became division chief of pediatric infectious diseases at Orlando Health in 1986 and Nemours Children’s Clinic in 1997. He also served as pediatric residency program director for Orlando Health, where he helped develop the residency program into one of the nation’s best community-based residency programs. Muszynski founded the nationally recognized HUG Me Program for pediatric HIV/AIDS care and research in Central Florida. Carrie Pope has been executive director of the Seminole County Medical Society, a nonprofit membership organization for physicians, since 2008. A graduate of the University of Cen-

tral Florida, with a political science degree and a minor in German, Pope specializes in non-profit management, membership recruitment, fundraising, event planning, community outreach and marketing. A native Floridian, Pope is married with two daughters. Erin Somers is the “go to” medical consultant of Central Florida. She offers a unique customer service/patient care coaching that’s helped area practices retain their patients and increase revenue. Somers does medical mystery shopping also. Physician liaison work is another specialty; Somers understands the importance of relationships with referring offices and getting your “message” to the masses. An executive MBA graduate of The Crummer School of Business at Rollins College, Derrick Taveras is CEO of Tactical Management (TMI), a consulting firm for seamless integration of operations vital to successful Medicare Advantage health plans, hospital networks, physician practices and their vendors. He also serves as CEO of WellTrackMD, a solution developed around maximizing profits via improvement of documentation. Board-certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI), Mark P. Trolice, MD, FACOG, directs REI activity at the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children and Women (APHCW). Fertility C.A.R.E. is a teaching affiliate of APHCW responsible for the medical education of obstetric and gynecology residents. Fourth-year medical students from around the country are educated in REI at Fertility C.A.R.E. A graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, Trolice completed his residency at Jersey Shore Medical Center, and REI fellowship at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. Throughout his career, Trolice has collaborated with the University of Florida, Florida State University, and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Cindy Tyler has more than two decades of experience in the development and growth of successful client relationships in complex Fortune 500, public sector and healthcare environments. Before joining Florida Medical Association as director of membership development in 2009, which now has more than 20,000 members, Tyler served as business development manager of Bearing Point, a management and technology consulting firm, in Atlanta, and had a similar role at The Hunter Group,
