Hello Kroc Family! Spring is coming! I love the hope of warm weather and new growth that this time of year brings. Snow melting away (we hope), warmer temperatures moving in, flowers sprouting and blooming - new hope! Maybe you have hopes and fears. Hopes of improving your health and fear that you will not stick to it. Hope of finding a new activity but fear of not finding your niche. Hopes of growing in your spiritual journey, but fear that you do not know how. The list can grow and sometimes the fears can begin to squelch the joy of the hopes. We can help the hope! We have classes, instructors and trainers to assist with the health. We have groups, classes and activities for all ages. We have worship services, Bible studies, and men/women’s groups to support your spiritual journey. This is just the beginning of how we are “reaching out together” to help you learn, grow and succeed! We also have the secret to the source of all hope. “Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him for the help of His presence”, Psalm 42:5. Our hope in the Lord will never fail and cannot be squelched. Give Him a look and you will find what you are searching for today! Many blessings,

Majors Monty & Angela Wandling 6

WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN?

If someone were to ask you, “What is a Christian?”, what would you say? • They are a person who believes in God • They go to church • They read the Bible • They’re judgmental All of these statements might focus on things Christians do, but not what a Christian is. This might leave you thinking, “I guess I do not know. What is a Christian?” Five simple scriptures can guide us to the answer.

ROMANS 3:23 says: For all have sinned & fall short of the glory of God. Have you ever told a lie? How many lies does it take to be a liar? (Answer: 1) Have you ever taken something that does not belong to you? How many items do you have to take to be a thief? (Answer: 1) Would you say these are the only two sins you have ever committed?…This is why the scripture is so right when it says that all have sinned!

ROMANS 6:23 says: For the wages of sin is death. When you work for someone and accomplish what you said you would do for them, it is expected that they pay you what was agreed on for the work. If they do not pay, you can take them to court to settle the matter before a judge. Man’s law might be good, but God’s law is perfect and we have earned a wage and will receive it—separation from God. One of two things can happen at this point: 1. We accept that our sin has separated us from God and know that when this life is over we will spend eternity apart from him in a place of torment. 2. We can have someone receive those wages for us. This is the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel! JOHN 3:16 says: For God so loved the world, that He gave His one

and only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. This is what Jesus did for us 2,000 years ago on the cross; He received the wages of YOUR sin for YOU!

TITUS 3:5 says: Not by works we have done, but by His mercy He saved us. We cannot earn or deserve our salvation; it is a gift from God. For instance, if you get a present from a friend you would not ask them how much they spent so you can repay them - it is a GIFT that you received from them! JOHN 1:11 says: But to all who received Him, to them He gave the right

to become children of God. This is the key. It is not about believing what God has done for us, it is about receiving the gift He has freely given to us. A Christian is someone who has accepted the gift of life that God has offered us! How do we receive Him? We acknowledge that He is God and we have fallen short of His plan for us by confessing our sin, asking for His forgiveness, and begin to follow Him in His word and through the fellowship of other believers.

Here is a simple prayer that you can pray: Dear God, I confess that I am a sinner. I do believe that Jesus died for me to pay my sin debt, and to the best I know how, I trust Him and receive Him by faith. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen. SPRING & SUMMER 2018

In 1938, Chicago celebrated the first national donut day to help the needy during the Great Depression, and to celebrate the work of “donut lassies” who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. In 1917, The Salvation Army began a mission to provide spiritual and emotional support for U.S. soldiers fighting in France during World War I. About 250 volunteers traveled overseas and set up near the front lines where they could give soldiers clothes, supplies and baked goods. After discovering that serving baked goods would be difficult, two volunteers began frying donuts in soldiers’ helmets. These tasty treats boosted morale and won the hearts of many soldiers. Nicknamed “donut lassies,” the women who served donuts to troops are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States when the troops (nicknamed “doughboys”) returned home from war. The donut now serves as a symbol of all the social services The Salvation Army provides to those in need. The Salvation Army still serves donuts, in addition to warm meals and hydration, to those in need during times of disaster.
