W
e met on a blind date over four years ago at the Vancouver Art Gallery and now we are happily married! Almost sounds like an ad from E-Harmony. We fondly look back on that first date, as we do when we got engaged on December 4th, 2010 and married on July 20th, 2012. We feel blessed to have married the love of our life and our best friend. We can’t wait to grow old with each other, with a lifetime of memories and experiences.
Wedding Day: Mandy and her lovely bridesmaids were up at the crack of dawn, with hair and make-up starting at 5:30am! Meanwhile…Jason was still sound asleep! It was definitely worth the early morning, as Mandy and her bridesmaids all looked absolutely stunning. When Jason first laid eyes on Mandy, his breath was taken away. When we both walked into the temple and into our wedding reception, we could feel the love from everyone encompassing us. It was truly a beautiful ceremony. Our reception, it was exactly what we wanted: Great Food, Great People, Great Music and LOTS and LOTS of dancing! With the support of our family and friends, they went above and beyond in helping us make our wedding week a blast, minimizing the stress that comes along with weddings! We hope everyone at some point gets to experience an Indian Wedding.
Our wedding time was a riot, we wanted it to be a full on party with our close friends and family! 450…close friends and family. In fact the whole week, went by really fast, it was almost a blur. Having a chance to reflect on this week, we were so happy with our choice of vendors; Photographer Christine Williams, Hair Sarah Braim, MakeUp Charrisse Mae , Videographer Bill Nagra and décor Jessica Minnie . They really made our day special and made our ideas come alive! For our wedding week: Mandy’s Side: Had a Mendhi party where all of the special women in her life came to her parents house, to decorate their hands with beautiful henna designs, it looked amazing. The next day the celebration continued with a Mayan Party. Where the Atwal family, ate and danced well into the night. They were joined by a bus load of Bawa women, who were just as serious about partying! As tradition calls for, the Atwal and Bawa women, carried and danced with the “Jugo,” around the block. Two days after the Mayan party was the big day! Jason’s Side: The groom’s mother threw a mendhi party for the special ladies on the Bawa side. Where they had a bbq and danced the night away. The following night, while the women were off partying with the Atwal Family, Uncle Reg hosted the men over for lots of good food, drinks and great company. Lucky for the men they did not have to get up that early for the wedding day.

his was it, the vacation where I would propose to my future wife, Nirali. We took off to St. John’s Bay in December of 2011, with her suspecting nothing but a week of sunshine, beach, and guilt-free eating. It amazed me how far along we had come over the past few years. Having met in London in 2004, and reconnecting by happenchance 3 years later in old school fashion (AOL Instant Messenger), we were both initially weary of getting into a Midwest – East coast relationship. However, the text messages turned into phone calls, which eventually led to her initial visit to Chicago in 2008. There was something special about that weekend. A sort of connection that we felt might be worth the long distance headaches. We gave it a shot, and never turned back. Back to St. John’s… we were laying on the beach at Salt Pond Bay when I asked
Nirali to take a walk with me, once I had spotted the hidden path that I had read about online. After a short hike, we came arrived at Drunk Bay. It was just us, the water, rocks, and an assortment of artistic rock creations. After exploring the bay, we found a quiet spot to sit and take in the views. I looked into Nirali’s eyes and told her how much I loved her. I slowly pulled out the ring, and asked her if she would be my wife. After it all sunk in, she smiled (one I will never forget), looked at me, and said, “YES”. We spent the next hour chatting about our journey, and how fun our path had been that led us to this point. We were also able to take in a beautiful sunset, with our fellow rock animals and rock people in attendance. We married in September the following year, a wedding we will never forget. Our friends and family truly made it an amazing experience. Also behind the scenes were incredible decorators (Design House, NY), photographers (Salwa Photography), Videographer (Expression Cinema), Caterers (Hearty foods), DJ’s (DJ’s Unlimited) and planners (EEM) that helped to create and capture the moments we will never forget. We knew we wanted to tie in themes

We brought in a red London phone booth for our cards, and had some photos up from our e-session there. Our garba event featured food stations from our respective hometowns in India. After a weekend full of laughter, happiness and (joyful) tears, we took off to Bora Bora for a week to soak it all in. Looking back, our weekend exceed our expectations and we wouldn’t have changed a thing.

Himadri + Chetan

Our story began over 13 years ago when Chetan and I were teenagers. I was finishing up my last year of high school, and Chetan had recently moved to town to start college. We met through a mutual friend, and immediately exchanged contact information. Our story blossomed from there. We were young and carefree. Our chemistry was unmistakable, and we quickly developed a close friendship. We often lost track of time when together. Chetan shared his favorite phrase with me - carpe diem - and we lived our lives accordingly. Simply put, everything about us just clicked. Soon thereafter, Chetan took me to my senior prom. He planned a perfect night, which included watching the sunset over the Tennessee River before the biggest party of our young lives. Although we both realized that our dynamic was unique, we were too young to understand those feelings and continued with our lives. That summer, I left town to begin college, and life became busy. Even though we only occasionally spoke, we were always on the back of each other’s minds. While it took us six years to properly reconnect, our connection remained as strong as ever. We were both living and working in different cities at the time, but we were determined to overcome those
obstacles. Then, one day, much to my surprise, Chetan traveled a great distance just to see me and profess his love for me. Carpe Diem. Of course, I felt the same for him. The rest, as they say, is history. In 2011, Chetan took me to a beautiful waterfall and surprised me with a memorable proposal. Then, in October 2012, we married and celebrated the biggest party of our adult lives. Our wedding date was the anniversary of the day we professed our love to each other. For our wedding, we opted for a very intimate ceremony and reception. We chose The Biltmore Ballrooms, a breath-taking building with tall ceilings, ornate columns, and magnificent chandeliers, as our backdrop. For the ceremony, we decided on a very understated color scheme of whites and cremes. The focus was a custom-designed circular mandap, which took advantage of the height in the room and the stunning chandelier. Numerous candles surrounding the mandap and lining the aisle completed the fairytale setting. Following my family's tradition, I entered the ballroom escorted by several family members. A silk cloth from my parents' wedding over thirty years ago "protected" me as I entered the mandap. Prior to my arrival, five of my nieces announced my presence with candles and rose petals. Our ceremony was especially meaningful because our family and close friends completely surrounded us, and it only increased the intimacy of the morning. To our guests' delight, we had arranged for the service of mango lassi during the ceremony. These sweet yogurt-based drinks were a hit with both adults and children! For our reception, we sought a "sunset" color scheme - purple, pink, blue, and gold hues - to bring us back to that memorable evening before prom. Chetan and I sat with our immediate family at an estate table, which was perfectly placed to capture both the elegance of the evening and the love of our guests. As our guests arrived in the ballroom, each person was met at his or her seat with a letter from Chetan and I. While these notes had taken weeks to complete, we relished at the opportunity to personally thank each guest for his or her friendship and the positive impact on our lives. Along with the personal notes, we were especially pleased with our table numbers. We took the opportunity to incorporate the table number into a brief factoid of our relationship. The most popular table number was "4.999", which represented the number of years Chetan and I dated before we became engaged! The evening itself unfolded perfectly. We danced to our prom song, "Amazed" by Lonestar. After a traditional dinner, our family and friends danced all night before sending us off with glow sticks. As we look back at our wedding day, Chetan and I are especially happy with all the hard work and contributions by our families and friends. We have a lifetime of memories from the months of planning and the weekend of festivities. Though merely teenagers when we met, it’s comforting to know that our young hearts recognized true love, and that love was beautifully celebrated during our wedding weekend.

Interiors offer a pleasing harmony of textures and colours, from silk-threaded wallpaper, textured wall panels and refined crystal hardware on custom-made furnishings. Authenticity and residential comfort are the guiding forces behind Pierre-Yves Rochon’s design throughout the hotel. He meticulously studied archive documents and photos of the former Palais Iéna, reworking the textures, wallpapers, carpets, lighting fixtures and bath fixtures of Prince Roland’s era into his 21st century designs. Passing through the original iron gates, guests arrive in a small, protected courtyard under the restored glass porte cochère. Two Ming Dynasty inspired vases flank the entryway and set the tone from the outset for Asia-meets-Paris elegance. am from Rome . . . Rome, Ga and Hemal is from NJ. We initially exchanged emails through a family set-up that we were both resistant toward. We never expected to get along so well, we continued to get to know each other and traveled together. One weekend I visited my birth state NJ and off course is home, which is when we spent time together and that's when he took me to Atlantic City and PROPOSED! We got married in my hometown of Rome, Ga. at The Forum an arena. Yes, we needed and arena to accommodate 700 guest and so I could have each event decor customized with out any restrictions including an 80 ft. long raised aisle that led me to my mandap. We went with hiring a very well known planning company RĂŠve.ology Events by Snehal G. Vara. Her pitch was impressive, professional and stylish. They really do live up to their company motto, they took my "dream" and there "expertise" and created a flawless gorgeous wedding weekend with some of the most unique ideas. The entire RE team is fun group of designers, full of unique ideas and creativeness. They strive to not only cater to the Bride and Groom, but also cater to all guest and family and get to know everyone. They truly do become a part of the family. The RE Team was always extremely timely and professional, they never left my side and I never had look for anyone to make sure one thing or another was done properly, they were always a step ahead of the game plan. The 4 days of festivities started, with a Mehndi night at home, a small event with close family and friends. Mehndi night was our outdoors event with a tent setup in our back yard. An evening filled with family, music, dance, laughter and food! Grah Shanti, Pithi & Mandva Murat all took place at home now as a child it was my dream to have my wedding at home in my yard since that was not possible with 700 guest, we decided to host as many pre-wedding functions at home as possible. We setup a stage center of the yard and low sitting for all the guest. This was an all day event (like in India) we started the morning off with Grah Shanti & Pithi then took a break for

Bride & Groom grand entrance immediately followed my the first dance "Zindagi Mein Aaj Lamhe Khaas Aa Gaye" and the classic bollywood song "Pehli Pehli Baar Dekha Aisa Jalwa" with heavy fog and Co@ jets to set the mood! My anxious moment began shortly after dancing the night away at the Sangeet. The night started with tears in fear of not being daddy's little girl any longer, in the thought of leaving my family and moving hours away. The next morning I woke up yet another sleepless night. Memories I will cherish were when I was being led down the aisle by my sisters following their short performance to the intro of "Agaya Woh Din from Kisna". As I walked down my candle lit raised aisle with my Mama's on each side and the continuation of "Agaya Woh Din" I saw my soon to husband (Hemal), my parents along with my brother and sister waiting for me at the Mandap. On each side of me were all those family member and friends who had played a role in different parts of my life and too see them ALL under one roof at my wedding has me speechless. Another moment I will cherish is during the father daughter dance. "Pappa Mein Choti se Badi Ho Gaye Kyun" which mirrored by emotions to the tee! Kunal Mehta, the photographer was able to capture that emotional moment so perfectly.

Sangeet was a Rajhastani themed decor with traditional, vibrant colors of pink, orange, aqua and green, ornate stage decor with custom embroidered backdrops and carved wooden screens. My husband to be and I lead the party hand in hand and danced the night away! The Wedding was a contemporary but traditional theme with an allcrystal Mandap with a transparent Mandap canopy adorned with hundreds of candles and rose petals. An 80 ft. raised aisle complete with heavy floating candles led the bride and groom to the Mandap. After a teary bidaii with my father, Hemal and I retired to our suite, only to start getting ready for our reception! Very clean and elegant in hues of gold and ivory/ white. Stage consisted of voluminous white draping hanging crystal curtains and lush floral. Guest tables were draped in specialty gold linen of varying textures and centerpieces of tall explosions of white calla lilies illuminated with candles. Estate tables were dressed to compliment with custom Chivari chair covers. White vinyl dance floor and intelligent lighting. The evening started off with immediate family introductions which led to the surprise

edding days can be described in a multitude of adjectives. If I had to pick one word to describe me and my Husband’s day, it would be “extraordinary. “ From start to finish, the entire day was truly magical. Getting ready with close family and friends, putting on the dress of my dreams, stepping into the limousine that would bring me to my Groom in the Cathedral I always dreamed I would be married in, every single moment was a dream-turned-reality. The reception was bigger and more beautiful than I ever imagined- decadent wedding décor covered every inch of the room, and no detail was missed by our incredible decorator, Utopian Events. Beautiful shades of gold, pink, and purple colored the Intercontinental Hotel Grand Ballroom. Gorgeous, grand flower bouquets highlighted the stage and the estate table. The reception was so grand and elegant; it was as if I walked into my very own fairytale. Our wedding was truly unique because it contained elements that highlighted both me and my Husband’s backgrounds. His background is Indian, and my background is Italian and Cuban, therefore we honored our cultures by highlighting the day with elements from each background. The result was breath-taking, and truly unique. We honored the Indian background by using elements such as an Indian stage and Indian music. The result provided us with elegant, creative décor and a specialized DJ that executed the evening flawlessly, keeping everyone from all backgrounds dancing the night away. To honor the Cuban
background, an 11-piece, live Latin band performed during the reception sultry, classic romance songs I grew up listening to. The result? A multicultural grand wedding unique to only me and my Husband! The day passed by so quickly. I remember thinking, “I can’t believe it- it’s blowing by too fast!” After the day was over, we missed every moment and every special detail. Luckily, after reviewing our photographs our amazing Photographer took of the day, in combination with reviewing our epic wedding video produced by our Cinematographer, we couldn’t have been more thankful! We are now able to cherish every special moment forever. These services were absolutely critical, because now something remains of the big day, and we can re-live and re-visit the time when we said our vows, danced our first dance, were announced for the first time as Husband and Wife, along with many more special, first time events. We were so lucky to have our family by our side the entire way, which is what made
the day even more special! Not only was it a dream-come-true for us, it was also a fantasy-turned-reality for our families. Having our family and friends with us was just as equally important as everything else. Friends and family traveled from across the United States and even from outside the country to share our special day! We were so blessed to be able to share this day with them. Having our family members witness our special first-time events as Husband and Wife contributed to making the day the best day of our lives that will live in our hearts forever.
