WHY BIRMINGHAM? Whether you already live in the area or are thinking about moving to the city, Birmingham is the perfect place to be a student. Our Digbeth campus is in the heart of the creative quarter and a 10 minute walk from New Street Station and Grand Central. Our Bournville campus is located in the new leisure and shopping complex at Longbridge with easy links to trains and motorways. SHOP UNTIL YOU DROP!

BIG SPORTS FAN?

Love shopping? Then Birmingham is the place for you with the Bullring shopping centre, home to over 160 shops, designer shopping at the Mailbox, and a host of independent arcades and shops which include a number of vintage and retro shops.

Birmingham has a big sporting scene! Edgbaston Stadium is home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club and is the venue for many international cricket matches. Football fans can have their fill with Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City and tennis fans can catch the Aegon at The Priory Club – the birthplace of lawn tennis.

ATTRACTIONS From Cadbury World to The Sea Life Centre, the Black Country Living Museum to the annual festive German Markets, there are a lot of attractions to keep you busy during your time in Birmingham.

NEED A NIGHT OUT? We’ve got it sorted! There are over 70,000 students in Birmingham and so there are plenty of bars and clubs, many of which host student nights. The city has a number of music venues such as The Crossing Genting Arena, the Barclaycard Arena and the Birmingham 02 Academy for big music concerts.

ART AND CULTURE Birmingham has more than 500,000 works of art in one square mile and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery has the world’s largest Pre-Raphaelite collection, including some 2,000 art works. You can also get your fill of culture at the Ikon Gallery, Barber Institute of Fine Arts, Symphony Hall, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Birmingham Royal Ballet and Birmingham Opera Company.

There are a number of outside areas in and close to Birmingham City Centre including Sutton Park (the largest urban park in Europe), Cannon Hill Park and Cofton Park. Sarehole Mill is only a couple of miles from the city and was a childhood haunt of J.R.R. Tolkien and is said to be the inspiration for The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.

LEVELS EXPLAINED Are you confused by HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees? Let us demystify it for you. LEVEL 4 HIGHER NATIONAL CERTIFICATE (HNC) Equivalent to the first year of university The HNC is a level 4 vocational qualification. It is particularly suited to part-time study. Studying for a HNC usually takes one year full-time or one and a half to two years part-time. Once completed you may continue to study and top up to a HND at the college or honours degree.

LEVEL 5 HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA (HND) Equivalent to the second year of university The HND is a level 5 vocational qualification. Studying for a HND usually takes two years full-time or three years part-time. Completion of the HND can lead directly to employment or help you progress onto the final year of a full-time honours degree.

LEVEL 5 FOUNDATION DEGREE Equivalent to the second year of university Foundation degree courses at the college are designed and delivered in partnership with universities and employers. Studying for a foundation degree usually takes two years full-time or three years part-time. They are a level 5 vocational qualification. After completing a foundation degree you will be able to progress into employment or onto the final year of a fulltime honours degree.

20

LEVEL 6 HONOURS DEGREE Equivalent to an honours degree at university. An honours degree is awarded by a university and is a level 6 qualification. Studying for an honours degree usually takes three years full-time or four and a half to five years part-time. You can also top-up to an honours degree from your HND which will take one year full-time or one and a half years part-time.

TOP-UP QUALIFICATIONS The term top-up applies to studying for qualifications in separate steps. You can study for a HNC qualification and then top-up to a HND qualification followed by topping up to an honours degree. At each stage you will be awarded a qualification which will help you move into employment or further study. By studying this way you can even take a break between qualifications before continuing.

Our fees are lower than those of many universities and as a full-time resident in the UK you can apply for a loan to cover the cost of your tuition fees.
