Person Specification – Policy and Representation Co-ordinator We have described below the range of experience, knowledge, skills and attributes we are looking for. We will use this to manage our selection process and also to identify training needs once in post. We aim to recruit individuals who largely satisfy these: 1. Good understanding of the student experience in Higher Education 2. Proven experience of providing support to a representation function. Experience and understanding of academic representation 3. Proven experience of successful project management 4. Detailed and current knowledge of campaigning techniques, including events, online, lobbying, or more direct action. 5. Significant knowledge of current issues affecting students and institutions in Higher Education 6. Commitment to and knowledge of equal opportunities – including inclusivity and access issues 7. Commitment to and passion for the values and purpose of a Students’ Union, including the ability to work in a student led environment. 8. Influential communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information effectively to a range of different audiences, to be reflected in written work, formal presentations, informal exchanges with students and colleagues in the university and producing appropriate information and presenting it in different ways. 9. Confidence in a range of IT skills; mainly focussed around MS Office and the use of electronic information systems, but including efficient and effective ways of maintaining an online presence and confidence with database management. 10. Ability to research, analyse and present complex information with strong numeracy skills to understand and explain statistics 11. Ability to manage your own time and resources and to work under pressure with minimum supervision but as part of a small team 12. Able to maintain key stakeholder relationships as directed by the Advice & Representation Manager 13. Able to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends. 14. Commitment to and an understanding of, Ethical & Environmental issues and Health & Safety
