1 Purpose 1.1

The Education Committee is Responsible for: 1.1.1

Ensuring that the educational interests of all students are effectively represented within the Union, the University, and at a national level

1.1.2

Organising campaigns on education issues relevant to students of the University

1.1.3

Implementing Union Education Policy

1.1.4

Ensuring effective communication with and between all student representatives to University committees

1.1.5

Assisting the Academic Presidents with representational and educational issues in each Academic Unit

1.1.6

Overseeing the production of a course representative handbook, training, and briefings

1.1.7

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge, information, and opinion on Higher Education policy and issues in the University and beyond

1.1.8

Maintaining up-to-date knowledge, information, and opinion specific to the diverse groups of the student body

1.1.9

Receiving reports from all Faculty Officers

1.2 The Committee shall be chaired by the VP Academic Affairs 1.3 The Committee shall operate under the general rules governing standing committees as outlined in Standing Order 3, Section 1 of the Constitution.

Each of the Academic President positions shall;


Education Committee Standing Committee By Law 2.3.1

Act as the lead academic representative for undergraduates and postgraduates within their academic unit, liaising with staff about issues affecting students.

2.3.2

Co-ordinate the course representatives in each year, ensuring the remain updated on issues and attend relevant meetings

2.3.3

Sit on the appropriate committees and boards at an academic unit level, co-chairing the staff student liaison committee and sitting on the school board

3 Sub Committees 3.1

The Education Committee has created the following sub Committees;

3.1.1 Faculty Forum (per Faculty) 3.2 Faculty Forums shall 3.2.1 Receive reports from academic presidents about issues affecting each academic unit within the faculty

3.2.2 Discuss major issues affecting students of the faculty 3.2.3 Plan action and resolution regarding such issues 3.2.4 Report to the education committee with action points and concerns 3.3

The Sub-Committees shall be chaired by their relevant Faculty Officer

3.4

Sub-Committees shall report to the following Education Committee

4 Meetings 4.1

Timings 4.1.1 Meetings shall ordinarily be held at least twice per semester 4.1.2 The Chair shall, with appropriate support, shall ensure agendas and papers are circulated at least 3 clear days in advance of meetings

4.2

Election of Voluntary Officers or other representatives


Education Committee Standing Committee By Law 4.2.1 Academic Presidents shall be elected in the summer term and will take up post on July 1st for the period of 1 year

4.2.2 Academic Presidents shall be elected online, Co-ordinated by the VP Academic Affairs

4.2.3 The VP Academic Affairs shall be the Returning Officer for these elections 4.2.4 At the first meeting of the academic year, the committee shall elect

representatives to other standing committees as appropriate. It shall be the responsibility of the chair to liaise with other standing committees to ensure these vacancies are known.
