beloved mother of outcasts FIRST FRANCISCAN WOMAN TO BE CANONIZED A SAINT IN NORTH AMERICA

Whether she was managing a hospital, leading her congregation, or gently tending to the broken lives of those with Hansen’s disease (leprosy) on the Hawaiian Islands, Mother Marianne reached out in faith and love to restore dignity, grace and healing.

A pioneering woman of never failing optimism, devotion and self sacrifice, Mother Marianne was firmly rooted in the Franciscan tradition of Saints Francis and Clare who gave special attention to the poor and outcast. Today, the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities continue this mission in 13 U.S. states/territories as well as in Peru and Africa.
