Pediatric Hospital Design Duration: 6 Weeks Project Scope: Group, Pediatric Unit Date: Spring 2018, Junior Studio Programs: Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD
The concept of this hospital is a healing garden, aiming to create a calming yet lively environment that restores the health of its occupants. Centralized nursing stations, smaller and separate waiting areas, and an open plan with high visibility ensure that the hospitalization experience is both personal and efficient. The addition of the central rotunda (which provides natural light and views of vegetation) demonstrates the patient’s need for, and right to access, nature during their hospitalization. All materials selected for this project are hospital grade with high levels of cleanability and accesibility.

Room Numbers & Accent Flooring
Signage & Wayfinding The importance of signage and wayfinding in hospitals is magnified as medical centers are often large, unfamiliar, and can add to user confusion in times of trauma. Large, illuminated room numbers with a color coded background create ease of use for patients and visitors. Flooring patterns that lead from the lobby to the play area on each floor make the space inviting for young people, as well as helping users find their desired wing from the main lobby.

Restaurant Design Duration: 6 Weeks Project Scope: Lighting Date: Fall 2017, Junior Studio Programs: Revit, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD This project was completed in a globally based studio with a focus in lighting design. All plans for this restaurant were completed using metric scale. The building site is located in Ankara, Turkey, next to a popular city center & train station. Our studio partnered with an interior design studio in Turkey, and video conferenced with them multiple times over the semester to find out more about the culture and the communitiy around the building site. The concept for this project was the olive tree, a universally positive symbol, which grows abundantly in Turkey. Forms and materials are reminiscent of those found within the forms and fruit of an olive tree.

Wine Bar & Bakery Duration: 10 Weeks Firm: Hayden Design Associates Date: Summer 2018 Programs: AutoCAD, SketchUp, Microsoft Office I completed an Interior Design Internship at Hayden Design Associates, a small commercial interior design firm in Winston-Salem, NC. I spent most of the summer working directly with the principal of the firm on the following Wine Bar & Bakery project. I was responsible for modeling the project in SketchUp, renderings, AutoCAD drawings and eventually first drafts of construction documents, in addition to ordering samples and consulting reps for pricing. In addition to this project, I helped other designers with AutoCAD drawings, went to client meetings, helped update weekly agendas, and shadowed other designers. I also experienced working with higher education, assisted living, retail, government, and healthcare projects.

The photograph to the left is the building in which this project will be completed, located just outside of downtown Winston-Salem, NC. The client came to Hayden 09 construction documentation, 10 Design in June08of 2018 wanting help with space planning, and FF&E. I assisted the principal of the firm by attending client meetings, putting the design into AutoCAD and SketchUp, ordering samples, and shadowing her for the project. This project is not yet completed, and is scheduled to be finished within the next year.
Home Depot Retail Duration: 10 Weeks Date: Fall 2018, Studio VI Programs: Photoshop, Sketchup The following project was designed and submitted to the PAVE retail design competition, sponsored by The Home Depot. Several design challenges were presented, and I selected to design the Services Connection Space and Garden Creation Center. As a brand, The Home Depot is highly efficient and functional, and has effortlessly served all of its purposes for the last 40 years. Businesses that are succeeding in the changing retail climate are ones who craft an experience for their users. It’s time for The Home Depot to integrate design intention and add form to function.
Exterior Services Storage Hub Interior Services Meet The Professionals Interactive Touch Table
Inspired by a gable roof form, the Services Connection Space acts as a form of wayfinding: the large gable roof motif hints at stability, reliability, and comfort. The Services Connection space provides an opportunity for The Home Depot to strengthen their reputation as the home improvement store used most by industry profesionals. Home Depot associates will assist customers looking to fulfill service tasks at either the Interior or Exterior Service desks, located on the Interior and Exterior of the “home”.
Less than 50% of retail customers visit stores with the intention of completing a specific task. Here’s the breakdown:
task driven 49%
7% social 15%

Garden Creation Center Scanned with CamScanner
Inspired by terrace farming, the garden creation space will serve as The Home Depot’s community garden and learning space. The terrace system allows for many varieties of plants to easily dwell in one area, much like The Home Depot’s range of opportunities available in one location. Plants will be selected and rotated out on a regular basis, and a trained associate will demonstrate planting with customers, educate users about preferred habitat conditions, maintenance, and other relevant information based on the selected plant.
International Design Schools Workshop: Brooklyn 2018 I was the Interior Design student from Appalachian State University selected to participate in the International Design Schools Workshop in NYC in May of 2018. A team consisting of myself and 4 other international design students were tasked to create a prototype of the future heirloom during a week long workshop. My team was awarded a special mention for product potential based on our strong perspective.
