We see up to 3000 advertisements per day, the power behind advertising and branding is astonishing and to have the privilege to be a part of that is phenomenal. Through the past few years of education in the fashion industry I have gained so much knowledge of areas I didn’t even know existed, but now struggle to switch off from.

Developing skills week after week, how to revamp a logo, what type of layout works best, juxtapose, styling & merchandising, CAD work, photography. The list is endless, and growing every day, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Learning how to work under severe pressure, both alone and with others, learning how to lead teams and play parts of others by following instruction. Not only via college and university but also the journey from Sales Assistant to Supervisor at Bench.

Through this role I have developed the skills of merchandising in practice at a lower level, learning how it is to have hands on experience of the topics I learn every day at UCLan. Having the opportunity to visit Managers meetings through the company and seeing the hands on work Head Office have done, and how it is passed over to stores, watching collections be presented by the buying teams, the merchandisers telling us how to place it, and the Area Managers telling you how to make the most money from it.

I L I V iLiv came forward requesting some further marketing outlets for their company, of which does not have any stand alone stores and is not a big household name. So to promote their company to their demographic of “mums�.

Once presented with this case study the research began into the competitors and how they differ themselves to gain the sales. The key was to get more in touch with the consumer. Make them feel more involved in the process of of interior design. Through doing this you give them positive connotations of the brand and they will therefore spend again and pass the word on to their peers.

I L I V After extensive competitor research into what iLiv do and don’t offer in comparison to the other companies in their market. Through the research it was then that the key element of getting in touch with the consumer was noticed. Next play was to look into how to develop this, which turned out in the outcome of an app.

Both downloadable in app format and PDF style, for people who may not have the access of a smart phone, it was made sure all areas of the demographic were covered. We then conducted “mum” interviews to check this was something they felt they could use. The feedback was positive, a simple app that worked as an electronic catalogue, offering links to the website and product ranges, with the opportunity of expansion.

D E B E N H A M S SS14 for Debenhams Preston means time for their upcoming student Fashion Show. Of which they request photoshoots showcasing their clothing, teamed with the trends they have to offer for that season. This year, one of their trends was retro, which I added into a little floral print and some of the white noise mini trends Debenhams had specified to us.

It then started with research into Debenhams Preston and what retro styled products they had to offer for the shoot, over the next page you can see what was found and the fitting with the model that was chosen. The idea behind the shoot was to be a woman looking back her life in the 50’s in Preston. Shown through projection to represent thought and the worn photograph look.
