FAMILY OF MARKS

4

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

FULL COLOR

Above is the primary logotype of Lodestar Brewing Company. This mark should be used whenever possible in all designs and promotional materials. It should not be modified in any way whatsoever as it is the most visible and recognizable part of our brand. See specification for spacing on page 7, and size on page 17 . The colors of the primary logotype should never be changed. The main name should be in Stout, and the “brewing company in Lager. The star from the smallest front star to the back star should be in the approved colors Sour, Pale Ale, Amber Ale, and Lager according (see colors on pages 31-32).

5

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

TAGLINE

This mark is the primary logotype with the company tag line incorporated. This mark should be used only if the tagline is appropriate for the design. The tagline should be in the primary typeface Source Sans Pro. Be cautious when using this logotype as it must remain larger then the primary logotype. See sizing specifications on page 18. The color specifications for this mark are exactly the same as that of the primary mark with the addition of the tagline which should be in the approved color Lager.

6

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

SAFE SPACE

Above is the safe space of the primary logotype. When using the logotype in any circumstance the safe space displayed above should be adhered to. This space insures that the logotype is not crowded and is clearly visible, as it is the backbone of this brand.

The smallest star shape within the logo symbol serves as the promotional/ scaling object that dictates the safe space.

7

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

TAGLINE SAFE SPACE

The safe space for the tagline mark is defined by the same object as the primary logotype is. It is important to adhere to the safe space when using this mark just as it is with the primary logotype.

8

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

TINTS 20%

80%

60% 100%

100%

80%

Above is an example of a one color tint mark that should be used if a full color mark is not available. A tint mark should be used before a solid one color mark due to better retention of the complexity of the full color primary mark. Expectable colors for the one color tint mark can be found on the adjacent page. Appropriate sizing of logotype differs depending on color, See page 17–18 for other tint mark sizing specifications.

Use spot colors of the approved color palette (page 31–32)to find the correct tints. Above is the percentage color used in each area of the primary logotype.

9

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

TINTS

Above are all approved colors ( Amber Ale, Stout, Lager and Pale Ale) for one color or tint logotypes. Note the color Pale Ale should not be used on the tagline logotype due to legibility issues. 10

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

ONE COLOR

Above are one color primary logotypes in approved colors Stout, Lager, Amber Ale and Pale Ale. One color logotypes should be a last resort if full color or tints can not be done. When using one color logotypes be vigilante about legibility. Be cautious about logotype size, especially in the lighter colors, see page 17 for sizing specifications.

11

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

ONE COLOR TAGLINE

Similarly one color tagline logotypes should be a last resort when the logo can not be printed in either full color or tints. Be even more cautious about legibility, especially due to the tagline being in such small type. Adhere to the sizing standards mentioned on page 18.

Note the color Pale Ale should not be used on the tagline logotype due to legibility issues. 12

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

REVERSED OUT

Above is the reversed out primary logotype on the three approved color options Midnight, Stout and Lager. Use these white logotypes as a last resort, when limited to a two color palette, and only place the white logotype on the three approved colors above. The reversed out logotype in Midnight should be used only for applications like the event posters on page 51 as it is not part of the primary color palette. It should not be used for strictly branding pieces.

13

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

REVERSED OUT TAGLINE

Above is the reversed out logotype with the tagline. The same rules of use apply to these as do the primary logotype. Be cautious about scaling for these logotypes as the white text can easy become illegible if sized wrong. Refer to sizing standards on page 18 for proper specs.

14

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

REVERSED OUT

Above is the reversed out primary logotype in other color options. Use these color options when using a less restricted color palette then the logotypes on page 13. The Lager, Stout and Pale Ale reversed out logotypes should be tint logotypes if possible to maintain the integrity of the mark as much as possible.

15

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

REVERSED OUT TAGLINE

Treat the reversed out tagline other color options much the same as the reversed out primary mark. Make sure to use one color tint marks if possible. As with the other tagline logotype options be aware of sizing as it is easy to lose the tagline. Reference sizing specs page 18 for more information.

16

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size for the primary logotype in full color is 1.75in.

The minimum size for the primary logotype in one color or tints of Pale Ale is 2.5in. Because of low contrast with a light background this mark must stay larger than those in other approved colors.

To maintain legibility it is important that the marks are never sized smaller then these specifications. 17

The minimum size for the primary logotype in one color or tints of colors Stout and Lager and Amber Ale is 2in.

The minimum size for the revesed out primary logotype in all approved colors is 1.5 in.

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

The minimum size for the primary logotype with tagline in full color is 2.75in.

The minimum size for the primary logotype with tagline in one color or tints of Amber Ale is 3in.

TAGLINE MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size for the primary logotype with tagline in one color or tints of colors Stout and Lager is 2.75in.

The minimum size for the revesed out primary logotype with tagline in all approved colors is 3in. 18

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

INAPPROPRIATE USES

Do not for any reason stray away from the approved color palette (page 31–32). Only the five colors in the primary palette can be used.

Do not change the logotype to a stroke without a fill. Do not change any part of the logotype, such as the symbol, to strokes.

The logotype should always be resting on a horizontal plane, do not put it at any angle no matter the application.

19

PRIMARY LOGOTYPE

INAPPROPRIATE USES

Do not move any piece of the logotype. For example do not take the logo symbol and move it to the front of the mark.

The individual pieces of the logotype should always remain the same size proportional to the rest of the logo. For instance do not increase the type size without increasing the symbol proportionality.

Do not add any effects to the logotype. For example a drop shadow, inner glow, or texture.

20

WORDMARK

FULL COLOR

Above is the approved wordmark for the company. This mark should be used when the primary logotype is too large for the space. It can also be used as an alternate mark if a star graphic element appears somewhere else on the application. For example the t-shirt application on page 58. Always use the approved color Stout for the name and Lager for the “brewing company. Refer to page 26 for appropriate sizing specs.

21

WORDMARK

SAFE SPACE

Above is the safe space of the wordmark. When using the logotype in any circumstance the safe space displayed above should be adhered to. This space insures that the logotype is not crowded and is clearly visible, as it is the backbone of this brand.

The “O in Lodestar serves as the proportional/scaling object that dictates the safe space.

22

WORDMARK One Color

ONE COLOR & TINT Tint

If full color printing is unavailable use the one color or tint substitute. The acceptable colors for the one color and tint wordmark are the same as those used for the primary logotype. Refer to sizing standards on page 26 for correct specs on the different colors.

23

WORDMARK

TINT

100%

80%

Above is the tint wordmark in Lager. For the all acceptable colors the main name of the tint word mark should be at 100% spot color and the “brewing company should be at 80% spot color.

24

WORDMARK

REVERSED OUT

The approved colors for the reversed out wordmark are the same as those used for the reversed out primary logotype. It is also acceptable to use a reversed out logotype with the tint one color version of the logotype . However, if only one color is available use one of the reversed out white logotypes above. As with the primary logotype reversed out on Midnight should only be used for applications such as the event posters on page 51–52. 25

WORDMARK

The minimum size for the full color word mark is 1.25in.

MINIMUM SIZE

The minimum size for the word mark in one color and tints of Stout and Lager is 1.25in.

The minimum size for the word mark in one color and tints of Pale Ale is 1.75in.

The minimum size for the word mark in one color and tints of Amber Ale is 1.5in.

The minimum size for the word mark in all approved reversed out colors is 1.5in.

The primary, and only typeface used in the branding of this company is Source Sans Pro. No other typefaces should be used. All body text should be in Light weight in the color Stout. If the body copy is reversed out it should be in Regular weight in the color Silver as seen in the website on page 50. Headings should be done in the SemiBold or Bold weight in either Stout or Lager depending on hierarchical needs as seen throughout this manual. Italic in the weight being used can further emphasize specific items: for example the use of light italic to call out color names through this document. All other fonts within the typeface can be used at designers discretion throughout other applications. 29

COLOR PALETTE

PRIMARY

Stout is pulled from the main title of the full color primary logotype. It should be used for all body text on a light background as well as headers. It should not be used on backgrounds of Lager, or Amber Ale due to a lack of contrast. Stout can also be used as a background color with Amber Ale, Pale Ale, Sour or Silver text, for example the business card on page 45.

Lager is pulled from the “brewing company and back star of the primary logotype. It should be used mainly for headings that need extra emphasis/differentiation and ascent points. Lager can be used as a background color, but only with large type in either Sour or Silver.

All colors in the primary color palette come straight from the full color logotype. Each color is pulled from a type of beer that is crafted at our brewery. Make sure to only use only approved colors as they are the corner stone of this brand. Print as true to on screen as possible to maintain consistency.

31

COLOR PALETTE

PRIMARY Amber Ale is pulled from the largest star. This color has a fairly restricted use due to its value. It should only be used for emphasized areas on background colors Midnight, Sour or Stout or Silver for example the website on page 49–50. It can be used as a fill color for more illustrative applications like the coasters on page 55–56 as well.

Pale Ale is pulled from the middle sized star in the primary logo. This color can be used as a header on a darker background such as Stout or Midnight. It can be used for emphasized areas such as the small star or the center bar graphic elements throughout this manual or the pattern seen across multiple applications. When using this color be cautious of legibility as it is easy to lose when made too small or with too little contrast.

Sour is pulled from the smallest star in the primary logo type. This color should be used only as body text on a darker background such as Midnight, Lager or Stout, for example in the bottom navigation bar of the website on page 50.

32

COLOR PALETTE

SECONDARY

Midnight can be used for application such as the website on page 50, the coasters on page and the event posters on page 55–56 and 51–52 respectively. It should be used primarily as a background color or for elements within illustrative applications.

Silver should be used as a background color over white if possible and/or cost effective as seen throughout this manual. It can also be used for body text alongside Sour on dark backgrounds such as Stout and Midnight. It can also be used in a larger size or heavier weight on Lager.

Secondary colors were added for applications to create contrast with the warm earthy palette of the primary colors. The cool sophisticated tones of Midnight and Silver cater towards the more modern aspects of the brand.

33

GRAPHIC ELEMENTS

SYMBOLS & PATTERN The smallest star in the logotype can be pulled out an used as a graphic element. The star can be used to emphasize important information, break up space (as can be seen in this manual) or be used as a decorative element. All of the acceptable colors can be used for this element, however be aware of size and color to maintain enough contrast.

The overall shape of the logotype symbol can be simplified to just the main outer stroke to create this pattern. The pattern should always be in the color Pale Ale. This pattern should be used at 50% opacity if on a blank canvas such as its use throughout this manual, or at 20% opacity on an application with images and/or text such as the event posters on page 51–52.

The graphic element of the side bar can be seen throughout this manual and on the business cards on page 45–46. This element should always be in the approved color Pale Ale and should never take up more a sixth of the page.

34

GRAPHIC ELEMENTS

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photographs used throughout any designs made for this company should be high contrast and feature warm yellow and orange tones that match the temperature of the colors in the primary palette. For the event poster as seen on page 51–52 photos should have an grain effect which can be added in Photoshop in the noise effect at 2%.

Craft beer culture is taking off due to both older, dedicated beer enthusiasts, and new trends amongst the younger generations. Because of the wide range of demographics getting excited about beer, it is the goal of the company to attract, and incorporate a wide audience. There are a few specifics we have taken into consideration to achieve our company goal. An important aspect to attracting customers, both young and old, is the aesthetic of the company. We hope to achieve an aesthetic that appeals to our entire audiencce through a modern establishment that retains a rustic, nostalgic, and down to earth environment and feel. As well as crafting this unique aesthetic to guide our customers to our restaurant and beers, hosting and sponsoring events will play a large role in our strategy. By sponsoring events such as surf contests, festivals, art shows and much more, we can associate our brand with the interests that our customers already have. We will also host events that cater to specific demographics as well as those intended to breach demographic groups and bring more people passionate about beer together. For example; concerts, games, and tournaments such as boccie ball, beer dye, beersbee and much more. It is important to make ourselves stand out amongst the other breweries within the city.
